It's a venerable old theatre, but it seats around 1,400 (around the same size as the Neil Simon, where Hairspray is playing).

all i have to say about TLK is that location location location! thats whats keeping this musical going and the new amsterdam is its trademark. moving it out of that theatre would be a good idea if disney wanted it to close. and i agree with michaelbennet...movin out needs to stay...its the only good example of dancing right now. and when chorus line comes...they can share the choreographic limelight. and as far as movin out and its rights being released...that will be touchy...very fosse-esque in nature..its twylas...and if someone trys to recreate it...it just wont work. tarzan and little mermaid need to take the backseat to poppins in my opinion
btw...moving a show never really keeps its numbers up does it...correct me with examples if im wrong please
Disney has gotten another six years so far out of moving Beauty and the Beast from the Palace to the smaller Lunt-Fontanne. The Chicago revival, which started at the Richard Rodgers, spent most of its run at the Shubert, but has been generally doing just fine at the smaller Ambassador.
For A Tale of Two Cities, I can't see it going into one of the prettier theatres. The subject matter is pretty gritty and I can see them choosing a theatre that would reflect its darkness. However there's so many factors that I am sure they are taking into account, I can't even begin to predict which house they'll choose. Especially since I haven't been to any of the New York houses.

Maybe the Plymouth so Tarzan can swing from that balcony/lightning thing above the Mezzanine.

It is widely assumed that Tarzan will go into the Richard Rodgers and Movin' Out will be movin' out in time for a spring opening of the naked swinging ape-man. Disney would probably prefer for Mary Poppins to take over the Hilton but I suppose that depends on what happens to Chitty. If Chitty continues to play, I think Mary Poppins will go into a big house like the Minskoff. The Palace seems up for grabs since All Shook Up will not likely run past the tourist season of this summer. I would think the best shows for The Palace would be The Color Purple or Lestat, though Riedel says The Color Purple will take over The Broadway; in which case I think Lestat will go into The Palace. The other smaller shows like Zanna! and Princesses will probably have to wait for a more intimate theater since they are not blockbuster shows like the others.

Where can you read Riedel's article? All Shook Up's numbers haven't been that bad, have they? I thought Movin' Out was in the 70s, which isn't that bad, right?

I really hope that Matt Morrison is a part of this... that would be so exciting.
Morrison did the workshop but now they are auditioning every other actor in town, They have been flying actors on ropes and having them pick up bananas with their toes!
I quess having more $ than God and offering to fix up the Rodgers will clinch it for them.
Now if they can but out the Scientologists Disney will own 46th between B'way and 8th.
What about Studio 54? Would they put Sweeney there emptying up the Eugine O'Neill for something else?

I don't think Doubt's going anyway, however, people may start to loose interest after new shows start opening.
I agree with Michael Bennett on all counts: Cameron will definitely want a pretty theatre for 'Poppins'. There is no rush to bring it to Broadway.
Minskoff is logical for 'Tarzan'.
Movin' Out could downsize, but unlikely- still, it should be proud of its run. Still my favourite show on Broadway.
BATB most likely to pack up and make way for new Disney. It can always return in 5 or 10 years time, by which time it can make an impact all over again. Disney execs are far too savvy to split audience across 5 similar shows.
I'm thinking 2 Cities will last about 6 months.
Aww I really hope ASU doesn't close soon...however, if it were, Tarzan would probably take that theatre. It's a good size. And there's probably no way Lion King is going to be moved, they are selling out every night.

Maybe Disney will move one of its shows to Chicago or something for a sit down production instead of just scarpping the show all together? Maybe in LA or Chicago or something. Also, I just read that My Fair Lady is expected to open on B'way in Spring '06, so that now needs a theater. I believe Cameron mackintosh is attached to that one as well.
How about we just build a new theater! Eh?...Eh?...Anyone?
It seems that they are jumping into a new show, as rentboy86 said... they don't even have a cast yet, but have plans to open it in spring 2006. Seems kind of ambitious to me.
