I have noticed musicals in New York at the moment, do not have much discount, such as the usual, Wicked and Jersey Boys, but now also Billy Elliot, South Pacific, Hair and West Side Story, do not have discount. At Christmas we were talking about the dire situation because of closures with Broadway musicals theatres.

This time last year I counted 26 musicals playing, only Wicked and Jersey Boyswere doing full price, everything had discounts.

The shows playing April 2008

A Catered Affair, A Chorus Line, Avenue Q, Chicago, Cry Baby, Curtains, Grease, Gypsy, Hairspray, In the Heights, Legally Blonde, Jersey Boys, Mama Mia, Mary Poppins, Passing Strange, Rent, South Pacific, Sunday in the Park with George, Spamalot, Spring Awakening, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, The Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Young Frankenstein, Xanadu.

Compared with 19 today;

9-5, Avenue Q, Billy Elliot, Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Hair, In the Heights, Jersey Boys, Mama Mia, Mary Poppins, Next to Normal,Rock of Ages, Shrek, South Pacific, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Wicked.

A near 25% drop in musical theatre, as the choice is more limited now, as not so many musicals playing. do you think because of the lack of musicals, these are getting punters to fill up the other shows, which are giving full capacity, so therefore limited discount available.

Your post is a wee bit confusing. But what I get is that you are saying that there are no discounts for musicals. Jersey Boys, Wicked and South Pacific seem to be doing well. I went to a discount board and I saw discounts for the following musicals:

Shrek
Chicago
Mary Poppins
Hair
Phantom
Avenue Q
Rock of Ages
9 to 5
Little Mermaid
Mamma Mia

I think the theatre economy is picking up though...9 musicals made over $1 Million this week.

I thought this thread was going to be about ushers who take attendance before the performance and make each theater-goer say "here" when his or her name was called. It's a common practice in Bulgaria, you know.

I'd been disappointed in the Bulgarian theater scene for a few seasons now.....Dollypop...do you know what the future holds?

LOL, btw.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Bingo. Supply and Demand, baby.

The big news in Bulgaria is the upcoming musical of NO EXIT. It's being done with a cast of dozens and a full six piece orchestra in the pit.
