wow...this one, I'd say...is a good review (despite a couple lines towards the end).

But it's a love-fest for Eden: "In order of their power to get audiences standing at the end of individual numbers, they're led by Espinosa, here making the kind of Broadway bow that will still be talked about years hence; it's the equivalent of Jennifer Holliday blasting "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going""

yeah...that should get her at least a Tony nod.

all that they did was mention the cast -- the one positive. LOL. The rest of it seemed to go unmentioned in that review.

Ok, I will take the bait...

For instance, it wouldn't be smart to probe the poor girl's arrival in her namesake borough, where she sings a ditty titled "I Never Knew His Name." Ask why her mother forgot to tell Brooklyn her father's name, or whether mom ever even knew it, and the flimsy plot evaporates. As Fred Ebb has Billy Flynn declare in Chicago, "razzle-dazzle 'em and they'll never catch wise." Brooklyn struts its street-trash stuff with enough razzle-dazzle that audiences may never catch wise to its gooey center.

He must be kidding. Eden is extremely talented, and no denying that she has a great set of pipes. She CAN and WILL get a much better role in the future. That being said... these comparisons are absurd. She is given a bunch of cheesy numbers and dialogue to deal with here. Not her fault, obviously, but the show and role will not allow her performance to be "talked about years hence".

If Eden wins the Tony. I don't wanna know what will happen on here. And if the show is nominated for "Best Musical", I will be shocked.

Eden is not winning the Tony for THIS role. Does she have one in her? Probably. I would honestly be shocked if she won for "Brooklyn". No knock on her talent...just the role.

Since when does a Theatremania review lock up a Tony nomination? Come on, folks. If anything... it's the lack of big female roles in shows like SPAMALOT and LA CAGE that MAY lock up a nomination for Eden. But it's way way way wayyyyyy to early to tell. It's a long season.

I have no doubt she will be nominated... I can see Eden being a media darling. She has a great voice, and she's cute as a button.

How many new musicals are coming out this season? If there's only a few, Brooklyn may sneak in there. Heck, if The Boy From Oz could do it...

Guys, this is what, the second show to open this season? Let's not get carried away with Tony nomination talk. We still have LITTLE WOMEN, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, HITCHCOCK BLONDE, SWEET CHARITY, LIGHT AT THE PIAZZA, THE PAJAMA GAME and more. I'm SURE they won't be hard pressed to find some nominations.

Look, you guys posted NON STOP for two months about this show and how it was the best thing to ever come to the stage and EVERYONE and their mother is going to love it. Now that the reviews are out, you guys are just going to have to suffer through the consequences of your non stop postings.

Is it just me, or is the Theatremania review laughably inept? Consider:

"She's got the same range and control that rocketed Mariah Carey onto the charts -- and even more charisma."

"Even more charisma"? Mariah Carey has as much charisma as a can of spam.

"she sends notes into the air for seeming minutes without losing the sense of the lyrics."

Don't really understand what this means. (Or is it faint praise? "Since the lyrics have no sense, there's nothing to lose....")

"she also gets the toughest zinger, "You loved me and you loathed me and you made me rich and that's the American way."

I don't see how that lyric is a zinger in any way. It's not exactly a gasp-inducing revelation.

As the only positive Brooklyn review thus far, it isn't convincing me with its shoddy writing.

I never said anything about BKLYN being THE BEST MUSICAL IN YEARS!!! WOW!!! AHHHHH

I just wrote what i think based on the Denver Production.
And the other people (or shills should i say) were just annoying and making everyone hate the show before it started.

Yeah, but WICKED got positive reviews. This has yet to receive one.

Brantley wasn't the only reviewer who found that Keller was the standout. I actually rather like Espinosa, but let's not leap to conclusions here. Especially when by most accounts, she doesn't do much with what little she has to act. Not that that stopped last year's winner.

KELLER IS THE STANDOUT. SHE IS A DIVA IN THE MAKING.
SHE IS A DIAMOND. EDEN WAS GOOD ALSO, but Ramona is the star in BROOKLYN.
