Theatres?

Hairspray is doing the same, if not better than, The Producers. It's doing better than Beauty and the Beast, and is in the 80s percentage-wise for attendance. It's not going anywhere.

That's what I thought to. If any show is leaving, it's going to be Beauty and the Beast after christmas. It just won't be able to draw a crowd. I don't really know that theatre, but I'd love to see The Drowsy CHaperone go there.

P.S. I talked to Bob Martin at the stage door, and he said TDC is definently going to broadway in the near future, if they can find a suitable theatre.

Beauty and Hairspray will be staying put. Neither are doing business weak enough to suggest a closing.

And here's info from Playbill.com about Festen, which Bill Kenwright will be producing this spring.

>Would the Drowsy Chaperone ever go for The Lyceum after Souvenir closes.<

The Lyceum, with full seating capacity, has 924 seats, including an unpopular second balcony. While small musicals have played the Lyceum, it's too hard to turn a profit in such a small theatre with a larger show.

Riedel's column on Friday, 12/23, mentioned that Drowsy is vying for the Schoenfeld (where Chita is playing), along with Hot Feet (coming from Washington's National Theatre), Journey's End (coming from London), and Martin Short's show, Fame Becomes Me. Reidel didn't mention The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, which has set a May 7 opening date, so given the current landscape, I'm thinking Caine Mutiny might be going to the Lyceum after Souvenir.

The Belasco has the Lincoln Center revival of Clifford Odets' Awake and Sing this spring.

Yeah, Chita will be closing soon so that theatre will be open. What about Tale of Two Cities. Where's that going?

P.S. Festen isn't even on the list of new shows opening on theatremania. Are you sure about it getting the Music Box?

Are you sure Caine Mutiny isn't going to the Booth after Seascape leaves?

Faith Healer, with Ralph Fiennes and Cherry Jones, will be playing the Booth after Seascape.

Festen hasn't been officially announced, but casting is in process, and Kenwright would not give up the Music Box when Drowsy wanted it. Festen is supposed to open in March.

And although someone on this website posted that $18 million is an inflated figure for Tale of Two Cities, and the real figure is closer to $14 or $15 million, I have to think that that show will require a large house, like the Hilton.

Given the huge budget and what we know about the musical, all early indications are that Tall of Two Cities will be heading for the Hilton.

As much as we all love Chita, it's sad to see the numbers that she is drawing, and I think at this point it might be best to announce a limited run of another month or two, and then make way for Drowsy. This would also encourage the stragelers to come to this "must see" show.

Except Drowsy doesn't necessarily have the edge on the Schoenfeld. As Riedel reported on 12/23 (and as I mentioned earlier in this thread), Drowsy, Hot Feet, Journey's End and Martin Short all want that house.

Martin Short could have the Brooks Atkinson after The Odd Couple's run, and as for Hot Feet and Jouney's End, I don't know much about these shows, but maybe they can wait till next season.
This is just wishfull thinking on my part, but like so many others here, I really can't wait for The Drowsy Chaperone. This is a true Tony contender and it would be best to keep this cast intact, and by deadline.

You know, this board's bias toward musicals above all else sometimes astounds me.

If you're talking about me, you're totally wrong. I am a bigger fan of plays then musicals, but when a show comes around as special as The Drowsy Chaperone, you want everyone on Earth to see it.

P.S. If Festen doesn't even have a cast yet, how are they expecting to open in March?

P.P.S. Do you know when Faith Healer is opening? I am dying to see that.

Possible Theaters for Chaperone:
Broadhurst, after History Boys closes
Schoenfeld, after Chita closes
Jacobs, after 3 Days of Rain closes
Brooks Atkinson, after Odd Couple closes
Barrymore, after Ring of Fire closes

Woh woh woh. The Odd Couple is not planning on closing anytime soon. It is rumored Brad Garret will take over for Oscar after Nathan leaves. And he has a pretty big following, so the show will stay. And Ring of Fire hasn't even opened yet. How do you know it will close so soon.

1. Brad Garrett's final contracted performance is on January 1.

2. Ring of Fire doesn't seem to be the next Jersey Boys.

My post was not directed at you, QMAN.

History Boys opens in April, and is scheduled for 20 weeks at the Broadhurst.

Three Days of Rain also opens in April, and is scheduled for 12 weeks at the Jacobs.

So neither of those theatres will be available for Drowsy for the 05-06 Tony Awards season.

Don't forget, YankeeFan, the negativity that ran supreme around here about Jersey Boys before it opened. Ring of Fire received excellent reviews in Buffalo, and certainly stands a shot at a run. Certainly, its creator Richard Matlby, who assembled Ain't Misbehavin', knows a thing or two about putting a revue together.

And with or without Brad Garrett, The Odd Couple will play at least through April at the Brooks Atkinson.

Final date to open and qualify is May 10, 2006, which is when Tarzan opens.

And there's a mention of Festen in this article on Broadway.com, as to what shows they are looking forward to in 2006, just so you know I'm not making it up!
