This means Groff is really leaving SA

I'm happy and sad at this announcement
https://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=24980
On one hand I'm happy that he is going into another show but I thought that he was going to extend his run in SA past May 18th.
So I guess this means May18th IS HIS LAST SHOW EVER OF SA.

Rent The best show on Broadway. I was at the closing. BEST night of my Life. April 29th 1996-September 7th 2008 12 years of love "No Day But Today"

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Could it just be a bit of an extended vacation for him? Hair's a limited-run, after all.

Yeah, I don't see her staying on for much longer. Hasn't she been working on SA since she was like 13 years old or something?

re: This means Groff is really leaving SA

I doubt it's an extended vacation. Once the TV Writer's Strike is over, he is signed on to star in a show on F/X called "Pretty Handsome." It's about a guy in a conservative neighborhood who wants to get a sex change. Groff is his son who (naturally) gets some girl pregnant.

I can't wait to see Groff on stage and later on TV!

Groff plays someone who gets a girl pregnant? Wow.

That said, when do tickets go on sale for his final performance? I'm utterly desperate to see his last show! I will do anything, and pay any amount of money, to be there!

oh man... it just hit me how soon it actually is that Groff and Lea are leaving.

Lea, I can handle, but Groff and Gallagher were pretty much the two best things about SA I feel. And I have gradually become okay with that Gallagher isn't there anymore, but not have Groff anymore either!! I get too darn attached to casts *sigh*. I'm sure that I will get over it with time- but seriously. It's going to be very hard on his last day.

(I don't think I would even WANT to see it live. That would be like.. just no. I don't even want to think about the emotiontastic mess that would be Those You've Known. And Left Behind too, for that matter)
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

Jonathan is amazing in the role and so talented that he will be terrific in HAIR as well!

re: This means Groff is really leaving SA

Well, from someone on ATC who saw Groff in the concert version: "My only problem is with the casting of Groff. He was AWFUL and wrong for the role in the version that was done."

re: This means Groff is really leaving SA

The only problem with his performance was the wig -- it was like an auburn shag...worst a long shag...remember that?

re: This means Groff is really leaving SA

Well I guess that pretty much settles it then. I mean if someone from ATC said that, then it simply must be true!

Just another opinion, that's all.

So funny that so many of you people refuse to accept opposing opinions and then make ridiculous comments like yours. One poster wrote that Groff will be wonderful in Hair, and plenty of people who saw the concert version just didn't think so.

snl89, please go seek out mental assistance if you seriosuly thinkg that JGJ and Groff were the best part of the show. It is people like you who will turn Spring Awakening into the next RENT and no one will see the bauty of the show any more but the crazies that surround it. Take a chill pill a realize that the show will still be amazing without the holy Groff.

re: This means Groff is really leaving SA

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but as someone who actually saw it, I thought Groff was pretty fantastic. I mean, he was basically playing the same type as Melchior, so I'm not necessarily balling him a broadly talented actor, but he was really, really good.

The only bad thing about this timing-wise is that Karen Olivo, who was far and away the best thing in the show in the park, will probably stick with In the Heights.

WHY? WHY? WHY? OH GOD WHY????

Why can't good shows run forever with the people who belong in those shows?? WHY????????????

Of course it would mean Idina would have to do ReNt and Wicked simultaneously, but so?

re: This means Groff is really leaving SA

Groff's not leaving, he's going to play Melchior until he's 50. The guy in Hair is going to be a body double singing along to a recording.
