Namo thank you for your prayers.
I do love Millie and am upset about the bad news.
I have not seen the show since Sutton has left and will have to go and see Susan before June.

What would save the show? I think it should stay through September it is the perfect show for tourists and they come during the summer.
I hope they keep Millie alive.
Gimmee Gimmee more Millie.

Posted: 5/13/04 at 6:37pmLook, Millie had a good run, and that's all a show can really ask for. Bring on the new stuff. :)

Posted: 5/13/04 at 6:37pmI'll admit, Millie is one of my favorite shows, but it had a decent run, and I'm not that upset. I saw it three times, twice with Sutton, so I've had my fill of the show. Congratulations to the show for a great run!

I am only sorry for the folks that will be put out of work by its closing.
It was a Thoroghly Mediocre show that had the good fortune to open in a thin season.

Well as you know I am very fond of Millie (went 6 times)
But if it has to close maybe Jeanine can bring Violet
to Broadway. I think the Marquis is a bit large for it but you never know.![]()
I also hope the talented Jeanine Tesori picks up a Drama Desk for Caroline Or Change. She is very talented. Hope she can bring Violet to Broadway.

Posted: 5/13/04 at 6:57pmIt's sad to see it close, but not upset by the run. Personally, it's not a great show, but with great talent. I'm sad the talent won't be used for these purposes. I wonder what will fill the Marquis...How many more years 'til Grand Hotel is safe to be revived?

The thing to remember is that this show had a wonderful life on Broadway. You can't really say it outlived its usefulness b/c it had some great capacity numbers and made a lot of money, initially, for its investors.
I have to admit I use to be an AIDA junky (it was a Heather Headley thing), but then I turned to MILLIE after I saw it the first time. It is the end-all-be-all of "feel good" musicals and you just walk out of that theatre humming the music and feeling happy. I'll never forget Rob Ashford's innovative choreography, the great sets and costumes, or any of the individual performances I witnessed. It was a wonderful production that only improved the image of the original film.
What fun and what joy!

I love Millie... it's pure fun. I remember seeing discount codes all over the place for it, and getting a little bit worried, but I figured that it was a bit too soon for it to post a closing notice. I have a feeling that we might see at least a short extension....
In any case, I'm really sorry to see it go. I'm going to console Wicked_Elphie right now....

At least it won't be able to turn sour like some other shows who have long out-lived their spark...
I just hope Christian Borle (among others) get back on Broadway soon after it's closing, there's a lot of talent involved with that show.

Posted: 5/13/04 at 8:02pmI wish it could run forever, but I see the numbers and saw it coming. Millie is my all time favorite show, I've seen it 6 times with Sutton, and now I just have to see it one more time with Susan E. It's been a great run, and now I can look forward to community theatre and school shows, etc.

Posted: 5/13/04 at 9:16pmi told my friend about this. she started screaming "NOOOOOO!", and then started crying. is that normal for a show such as millie? i was like that with les mis, but, i mean, its les mis.

Posted: 5/13/04 at 9:18pmhaha, my friend who LOVES Millie left me a voicemail that consisted of "CALL ME. NOW. NOW! NOW!!!!" She said she was crying. But when she called to tell me that Aida was closing, I cried, so I guess it's understandable.

I'm sad and I must admit sort of surprised to see it go. But then again I don't really track its weekly grosses, so I wouldn't have known.
It certainly played a good run, but it seems sort of surprising for a show that won six Tonys including Best Musical only two years ago.
#46re: Thoroughly Modern Millie Closing
Posted: 5/13/04 at 9:23pmSweeny Todd won i think, 8 tonys, inlcuding best musical and they lasted about 1 1/4 years.

Posted: 5/13/04 at 9:32pmI'm really upset. Every year for my birthday, my Grandma takes me to see a Broadway show. Last year it was Gypsy. This year I was hoping for it to be Millie, but now I hear it's going to close before I can see it! I'm really pissed off about this. A few weeks ago, my fiend sent me the CD through the computer and I got really into it. Now I don't get to see it at all. *sad*

Posted: 5/13/04 at 9:50pmHas anyone seen Dixie Carter in it? I love her but haven't been and was wondering if I should, before it closes.

I think a big Mame revival should go into the Marquis.
