Sadly... I actually haven't seen this show. And I'm helping intern direct for a kids drama program I work with. So bring it on... critiques, thoughts, ideas.... Thanks!

definately fun for kids, but SO much to memorize. We did it in our high school production and we had SOOO much rehearsal time with seperating all the parts, since it's practically an opera. It's really fun.

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

Seussical's a cute show. I was in it a few months ago for the spring musical. I played a whoville person. Was your show cast well? My show was cast well. We had a great Sour Kangaroo, Jojo, Cat, Horton, etc. I don't know what else to say about it though lol. The songs are great.

We have auditions in two weeks.... so I don't know about the cast yet. Is the cast recording pretty easy to get a hold of... ie borders?

The cast recording's not hard to get. I think I got mine at FYE music store, but they should have it at TowerRecords, Strawberries, etc.

I'm one of the few that actually like the show. It's just plain adorable with some beautiful music. Very touching at the end. I've found it works best in intimate settings.

One of the productions I saw had an actual kid play the Sour Kangaroo's baby. It was very cute (especially at the end when he says "me too"), but kind of odd, since the kid was walking around next to his mom and not actually inside the pouch!

My favorite part of the musical is the Horton/Gertrude story line. Be careful with the Mayor/Mayors Wife/Who parts, they can really be blah if not done just right. I guess it doesn't really matter since it's for a kid's educational camp, though.

The kids should love it! Just expect all the girls to fight over Gertrude. :)

i like it too. the script isn't too great, but it is Dr Suess after all, not Shakespeare. I love the music, you can never go wrong with a Flaherty/Ahrens score!

I stage managed a production almost a year ago.. It was a lot of fun.. I would suggest keeping it simple and clean.. there is so much going on in the show that it's works simple.. Ours was very technically difficult and our hunches were in flourescent green tubes in black light.. We also had the young kangaroo played by a child and not as a puppet.. it works if the sour kangaroo acknowledges the little kangaroo in the respect of hey why aren't you in my pouch.. it's a pause look facial expression..

Never seen it but I have the OBC and I adore it. It is a kid's show on the surface, but there are issues taht are universal no matter what age someone is. The Finale is beautiful. It's one of those shows where maybe the adults can learn from teh kids.

Visually it should be BRIGHT, SIMPLE and VIVID - IMO.

I have the cast recording and I like it. Simple fun music, like avenue q or spelling bee.

I was the Sour Kangaroo in my HS's production, and I used a hand puppet as my baby :)

I was REALLY surprised by "Seussical". I actually went into seeing it not thinking it'd be good (or more just for kids), but I really, really liked it! There's a lot of awesome songs and the whole show is just really fun! I'd love to be in it someday!

The thing to keep in mind when directing this show is to keep the subtext to a minimum. most of the thoughts are spoken. It is not Chekov. =)

And, so, the best people for the parts are people who are simple, and fun.

My cousins did this show last year for their hs musical. and it was spectacular. The kids loved it and were asking for autographs. They had a professional flying specialist come in from Florida and hook them up to flying wires and harnessess and it was a real spectacle!
