lead - she had no problem saying those lines when I went. Or some other times. It's called getting tongue tied. It happens.

Her delivery of that line, accent and all, has been ingrained in my brain.

MB - Well, my point being, he began his review SAYING that this isn't for the purists and it will appeal to a different generation.

I love Brecht, but maybe it was time for a little something new and different.

These so-so reviews really make want to see the show.

I still wish Ute Lemper was in this All I know

What do you mean STILL?

That I wished when this production was announced she would be cast. And I still do.

Anyway she was approached for Jenny. But said no, because she likes when Jenny sings PIRATE JENNY.

All I know#129

Yeah, when she did it in German there were two versions of PIRATE JENNY.

It's all Lotte Lenya's fault.

Not sure if this has been discussed in this thread...

but after the glowing reivews for McKay, does she have a good chance for a Featured Actress Tony Nom?

That category will be crazy. This season is jam-packed with wonderful featured actresses.

She better! It was one of the most original musical theatre performances I have ever seen.

In a world where everyone sounds like Idina Menzel's half cousin (even the men), an original is a rare bird, indeed!

I don't think anybody will win from THREEPENNY; nobody got the kind of glowing personal raves that override the pretty unanimous negative reviews the actual production received, but a few noms aren't out of the question. Jim Dale, Nellie McKay, Alan Cumming (because his catagory is weaker than the others) and maybe Cyndi Lauper all have a shot at being nominated.

All I know#133

I really thought Lauper, Dale, and Rooney would receive raves, at least.

Guess I suck.

I'm worry for the Sweeney ladies now.

At this point, it's almost certain both Molina and Donna Lynne wont be nominated.

So either Lauren or Donna? I think the nomination may end up going to Donna. Though Lauren makes a stunning Johanna.

All I know#135

I don't think either of them shoudl get one.

But what the hell do I know?

Donna has a harder job than any other featured actress this season.

And both Donna and Lauren got more raves than any of the Threepenny girls. McKay got about almost equal raves as them.

All I know#137

Great for them. They do a wonderful job, too.

But like I said: I DON'T THINK they shoudl [sic] get one.

Felica, Elisabeth, Cyndi, Nellie all give better performances.

Stupid critics.

shoudl [sic]

-- Am I suppose to understand what that means?

There are also ladies from Drowsy, Pajama Game, and Wedding Singer.

It would never work out to be just ladies from TCP, and 3PENNY.

Well, I meant weaker than the female catagories, dd - there are only one or two leading actors who will get left out as opposed to several ladies, particularly in supporting actress.

And I don't think Lauren Molina has much of a chance at a nomination but I think Champlin does.

THE COLOR PURPLE, THREEPENNY, and WEDDING SINGER all have better odds at getting multiple supporting actress nominations over SWEENEY.

They should just give the cast of SWEENEY a special Tony and be done with it.

All I know#140

Yes, it means that I know I spelled should wrong. They teach that in the 11th grade. Only two years left until you get there!

I never said it should only be 3PO and TCP (though I wouldn't mind)...but those 4 give better performances.

Champlin DOES have much more of a chance at getting a nom.

They should just give the cast of SWEENEY a special Tony and be done with it.

I agree.

HEHEHE.
Maybe David Turner has a chance! BWAHAHA All I know

In my little world, I would be most destroyed if I had to choose between:

Fields, Withers-Mendes, McKay, and Lauper (I choose Lauper, but it isn't easy)

and

Dale, Rooney, and Turner --- I don't think I know who to choose there! (Good thing I won't have to)

I think we all know that Sweeney just won the Best Revival Tony.

Did I miss a Tony ruling somewhere, because from where I sat, Nellie was clearly a lead. She dominates the whole first act.

All I know#142

Brennan - that's what I was thinking.

I have no idea where I got that Nellie is featured. Someone said it here.

Bso, you were at the first performance too? I was in the front row. I think I saw you refer to Jim Dale calling for a line that first night. I wish I could afford to go back. Maybe I could just "Second Act" it!

All I know#144

Posted: 4/21/06 at 3:15pm

No, I wasn't there for the first show.

I just heard about him calling for line.

I was there when Cyndi yelled at someone for a ringing cell phone.

After further examination I realized that she began to sing the wrong verse.

It's supposed to be (I think):

So red blood spills on the shark’s back
When the shark strikes at its prey
But our Mack's hands, in their kid gloves
Are like clean, pure buds in May

And our city has a river
Whose green waters hide the dead
These are not those felled by illness
Friends of Mackie, someone said

But she started to sing:

So red blood spills on the shark’s back
When the shark strikes at its prey
These are not those...

...And she stopped and said, "Someone get that phone."

It was still hilarious! And she picked up "But a man stands..."

Is this Shawn's translation you're quoting?:

So red blood spills on the shark’s back
When the shark strikes at its prey
But a man stands in the kid gloves
Are like clean, pure buds in May

And our city has a river
Whose green waters hide the dead
These are not those found by inbreds
Friends of Mackie, someone said

Good God, how inept and unsingable.

It's no wonder she made a mistake.

I don't think it is word for word correct. But it isn't far off.

Have you heard from Mac the great shark
Who often smiles and shows his teeth
Mac the Knife is much less friendly
Mackie’s blade stays in its sheath

Merle! Really?

I still say that Diana DiMarzio from Sweeney deserves a featured actress nom. the most but I am seriously doubting that will happen.

I would guess that Cumming will get the nom. over Lynch. McKay and Lauper both desrve the nom., but I think that they will be lucky if they get one. I think that Jim Dale may also get a nom. over BCR.

Well, it's hard to imagine WEDDING SINGER getting worse reviews than THREEPENNY, and since Cumming seems to be doing "his bag of tricks" as one critic put it, I'd actually think ddtruit is right and that Lynch has the advantage for that final slot.
