Ok, I'm just going to throw this out there because I was thinking about when I saw it.
Was I the only one that thought "Sugar" was about something else entirely when the song first began? The entire first verse is double entendre.
My friend thought said that I had a dirty mind when I asked her, but it's so blatant, it had to be intended, right?

Eh. NOt a big fan. Some of the lyrics are down right criminal.
Raul gives a great performance though.

Tick, Tick... BOOM! is the love of my life. And I WILL see a production of it, LIVE, sometime before I die.
See Her Smile, as sung on the CD, is THE most beautiful thing I have ever, ever heard. Raúl signed my TTB poster, and it is one of my absolute most prized posessions.
For a while, I totally thought Sugar was about a prostitute. heh.

one of my friends thought the exact same thing about "Sugar"... but it seriously never phased me!
and i'm obsessed with "30/90"

I LOVE Tick Tick Boom. The music is gorgeous. "See Her Smile" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. "30/90" just rocks. "Come to Your Sense" and "Louder than Words" are such amazing songs. Seriously, I love every song on the cast recording. I want to see a live production so badly!
And I also thought "Sugar" was about something else too.

I remember getting the CD and sitting in front of my stereo for hours with 30/90 on repeat that first night. It was snowing really hard, and I just sat there all night long, staring out the window, playing it. I was obsessed with the song, and it was the first time I'd ever heard Raul's voice. The rest, on both accounts, well, let's call it history.

I think "Come To Your Senses" and "Louder Than Words" will go down as musical theatre standards. Both are just utterly stunning. "30/90" is awesome, perfect opening, and "Sunday" is beautiful, so Jonathan Larson. "Why" is one of my FAVORITE songs, Raul never fails to give me goosebumps.
It's certainly not as polished as RENT, but is an INCREDIBLE show none the less. Makes you ache to see what more Jonathan Larson had in store for us.
And yeah I def thought "Sugar" was about a hooker first time I heard it. :)
Did anyone see it in London?

Posted: 9/10/05 at 7:10pmI got the CD because of 30/90 and it's #6 on my iTunes Top 25 Most Played. I like Sunday, No More, and Therapy because they crack me up, but Why and Louder Than Words are just beautiful.

Louder Than Words and See Her Smile are my favorites.
I had Sugar explained to me before I heard it, I think it was meant to be taken a different way in the first verse, if only so you later go "Ooooh! It really is about actual sugar."
I personally love it.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

Posted: 9/10/05 at 7:24pmMy sister and her boyfriend just saw this in London and said it was the best show they'd ever seen in their lives, and that's including Rent. I still love Rent more, although that could be because I've loved it for so long. However, I absolutely LOVE 30/90, why, come to your senses and Louder than words. So incredible.

I am obsessed with this cd right now! Completely. I LOVE 30/90, Come to Your Senses, and Louder than Words. I can't get enough! I still prefer RENT, but that could just be because I've heard it more. I would love to see this show though.
But could someone give me a syopsis of the show? I've been trying to figure it out. And all I get is that it's Raul's (Johnny maybe?) birthday. A synopsis with where the songs fit in would be wonderful! Thanks!

I love ttB
The songs are gorgeous and great on their own but at the same time you can totally see somethings that later became a part of Rent ("No More" and "Boho Days" especially)
All three performers, Raul, Amy and Jerry give incrediable performances

Posted: 9/10/05 at 10:17pmLove this show. Wish I could see it live, but experienced it other ways. I too love the songs, at this point I think my favorite is "Real Life." Just like the whole idea behind it, but absolutely love "30/90," "See Her Smile," "Why," and "Louder Than Words." The show itself is great, particularly loved Raul and Jerry(they stuck out to me more than Amy). Raul's performance in the non-singing parts around "why" was fantastic. Knowing what we do about Rent and Jonathan's life, it just adds so much to it. And the birthday music at the end never fails to give me a tear.

Posted: 9/10/05 at 10:41pmOkay, now I'm confused. I've never seen this show, just listened to the cast recording. What exactly is the context of Sugar? I thought I knew, but now I'm not so sure. Thanks.
#22re: Tick Tick Boom
Posted: 9/10/05 at 10:50pmHmm. I dunno. I listened to it once or twice but it didn't really do much for me. I liked 30/90 and Sunday, but... I can't put my finger on it. Not my cup of tea I guess.
