Wildcat, don't make the Cabaret mistake with Pal joey. This part was written for Gene Kelly - and if you've seen the short color footage available from the original production he was the Gene Kelly from the movies: he really WAS that good onstage - and the dance music dominates the score. To do justice to a show like this, you really do need one helluva fabulous song-and-tap man and they are very hard to find AND THEN a great actor who can make the little shi* into someone you want to spend an evening watching.
Forget the female casting, it's the guy you are going to have problems with.
Remember: the show is called "Pal Joey" not "The Women who love him"
I'd love to see a revival of Pal Joey. I love TimesSquareRegular's idea, Patti LuPone & Harry Connick Jr in a show together would be a dream come true!
I'm sure it would be a dream come true. But it would be a nightmare if they did THIS show. Pal Joey is basically a dance show with great songs. You NEED someone with fabulous talent as a dancer, unless you are going to gut the show. If that's the case, do something else.

Defintely a 'yes please'.
I'm not always a fan, and she is too young, but I'd love to hear Maria Friedman's 'Bewitched...'
