Tina Fey says Sarah Palin impression hurt 30 Rock's ratings.

Tina Fey says that her impression of Sarah Palin really hurt 30 Rock's ratings her new book, 'Bossypants.' "Some may argue that exploiting Governor Palin and her family helped bring attention to my low-rated TV show," Fey writes (via an excerpt in USA Today). "I am proud to say you are wrong. My TV show still enjoys very low ratings. In fact, I think the Palin stuff may have hurt the TV show. Let's face it, between Alec Baldwin and me there is a certain fifty percent of the population who think we are pinko Commie monsters."

I disagree with her. What hurts the "30 Rock" is the writing that she and the other writers have done. Characters like Tracy, Frank, Lutz, and Toofer can get really annoying after a while. Liz has also become too weird. She doesn't understand that is the problem with the show.

Didn't Tina win an award for her portrayal of Sarah the Quitter? I had heard at the time Sarah Palin loved her impression. Now I hear she is not crazy about(which goes to show Sarah The Quitter has no sense of humor)

If Tina was not kidding I don't know what her point is. She got a lot of positive attention for playing Sarah Palin in 2008.Someone HAD TO PLAY Sarah on SNL. If it was not Tina it would have been Amy Poehler or Kristin Wiig or someone else. How can Tina have regrets? Although, I use to work for a guy who actually thought Alec Baldwin was a Tea Party Member because of his portrayal of Jack on 30 Rock. He had no idea of Alec's personal liberal beliefs and was very disappointed when he found out.

FYI,Alec Says 30 Rock has one more season left!

The ratings have never been good for 30 Rock. It's a prestige show for the network. Comedy prestige. She is simply pointing out that the Palin impression was likely to alienate potential viewers as much as lure them to the show.

Alec maintained throughout the first season tat the show was designed for a five year run and it would end after the fifth season. When the second season was truncated by the writer's strike, he then said the sixth season would be the final one.

Whether Tina or NBC wants to continue after that is anybody's guess. It could certainly go on without Alec, what with Will Arnett's character always bubbling under the surface. But will it? Only time and contract negotiations will tell.

Tina is hosting SNL on April 30th. I'll bet she does her Sarah Palin(The Quitter from Alaska)character. I'm sure Lorne Michaels asked her to host on the one condition that she play Sarah Palin in a skit.

I disagree with you, bwl. I think 30 Rock is stronger than ever. I, personally, think that "Queen of Jordan" ranks as one of the all time best 30 Rock episodes (if only for Angie's way of saying "HAM!") If anything, the show really took off at the beginning of its 2nd season when they decided to make everyone slightly eccentric. It went from being slightly off beat and smart (1st season) to outrageous and hilarious (2nd season to present).

I think it went from being off-beat and smart to being "Green Acres," with the main characters taking turns being Oliver Douglas from episode to episode. And I do think the "Queen of Jordan" was a series highlight, and think they would be really smart to spin it off. As much as I personally loathe proud ignoramus Sherry Shepherd, they did manage to get the caption "illiterate Fundamentalist Christian" in the episode, even if it wasn't underneath her.

First off, did you read that quote with sarcasm off?

Secondly, Liz Lemon has always been a weird, damaged character from day one.

Thirdly, 30 Rock works as something that is completely farcical though since last season it has not been running on all cylinders notwithstanding some amazing moments in between.

I think the season has been solid. I know a lot of people haven't found it up to snuff, but I think it's maybe not as funny as it was two seasons ago, but it still makes me laugh consistently. And I'm invested in it.

Some things do cross my mind, though. Like, does the TGS cast consist solely of Jenna, Tracy and sometimes Danny?

I loved the Queen of Jordan episode. I loved the earlier one they did where Queen of J was shooting at the studio. The "Uptown Girl" singoff made me laugh so hard I had to stop the episode and watch that scene again.

It is weird that the funniest thing in a thread about Tina Fey is someone thinking that it is the writing that hurts 30 Rock, ironically from the same person who missed her blatant sarcasm in that quote

Tiny Faye versus Sarah Plain & Tall Paling: do we REALLY need to judge who's funnier or wittier or smarter? Sarah is certainly more conventionally pretty, but dang if that beauty is not stone cold. If you REALLY still are not sure who should be Queen Bee of your high school, please leave the USA as you swore you would if Obama took 1600 Penns.

the quality or popularity of THIRTY ROCK: it kicked LIVE FROM SUNSET's ass and Sorkin is a genius. Does NBC indulge it? perhaps. Does it contain some of the best satirical writing and acting since THE OFFICE turned Yank? debatable. But is it better than HOT IN CLEVELAND for god's sake or any reality TV show? again, if you question that please take your taste elsewhere in the world and promise not to procreate.

Well, 30 Rock did nothing but good things for Fey's sex life.

She got knocked up!
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

i'd carry Fey's baby and/or be her manny. Just for the celebrity backstage scoop alone. i'd even rub the potion on her scar.
