If you paid attention, you would see a very fleshed-out Cheryl Strayed by the end of the play. It's doesn't tell the story in a traditional sense but has pieces of it that you need ti put together yourself. What I saw at the Public was beautiful and affecting and exactly what theater should do to an audeince. It might help you underdstand it better to seperate drama from theater, which are essentially two different terms.

Agreed. I saw it tonight, and I liked the show, but felt the direction was a little lacking at times - hated the constant slow walking around the set saying "love love love." Felt very THEATER and not in a good way. But thought the performances were all great.

Have it on good authority that it is moving to Broadway in the Fall.

I saw it Thursday night.  On the whole, I enjoyed it for the acting and the moving moments, but even at 80 minutes, I struggled to keep my eyes open a few times.  I also found the whole repetition of "love, love love" a bit awkward.......forced perhaps.

Thomas Kail and Jeffrey Sellers were both there, and I couldn't help wondering if they're having discussions on transferring.

It is transferring in the fall! They'd need a tiny house, and can't see it really working in a larger space, esp at 80 mins. But they think with "director of Hamilton" they can make it work. Can't imagine it's too costly.
