Hooper was interviewed on BBC Radio 4 starting at about 7:40 in the link below. Don't know how long it will be up. It's basically about the process of filming, singing live, spoken dialogue, new song/music by the same composer. The cast isn't mentioned except a short blurb about Jackman. Very interesting.

For a new director of a movie musical, Tom Hooper sounds like he is very much on top of how such an iconic work ("part of the global conversation" as he puts it) can translate effectively to the film medium.
I am excited about how he is approaching the "sung-through with spoken lines" format ( doing some initial work with Hugh), how he is rationalizing why live singing cum acting could be the more effective way of delivering the musical score, and the whole process of film-making which he believes will translate into a new visual and listening experience, compared to what a fan has had with the stage production.
And he talks of a new song and new music being composed by Claude Michel Schonberg

New song usually = deleted song.
Wonder which one?
(Please be "Little People." A thoroughly shortened "Castle on a Cloud" would do as well)

I'd MUCH rather see Zooey Deschanel as Eponine than Taylor Swift.
Of course, I'd rather see the corpse of Ethel Merman in the role before Taylor Swift too, so I'm not sure how much that says.

The new song could be "I Saw Him Once"?
Or it could be just that, new. Schönberg is a composer I greatly admire.

I imagine it'll be a song played over the end credits, so they won't be cutting anything out of the score to make room for it. It'll just be something for the audience to listen to while they're getting their coats and purses.

Or they could do something similar to what EVITA did with "You Must Love Me" and write a new song to be part of the plot?

Because "You Must Love Me" was written for the movie as well. I'd like to think they'll have the song playing during the credits, just like songs in Phantom, Hairspray, and Chicago. did.

I assure you, I've kept up. The way that you phrased your post on Evita is as if you're replying to a question that was never asked.
The fact that Evita did it has absolutely no relevance in whether the Les Miserables film will or not.
Personally, I don't think a song over the credits of Les Miserables would be a great fit. I could see them possibly giving the Thenardiers a new song though.

I think you're confusing "not getting it" with pointing out that it's an irrelevant statement. Two completely different things. You may find that people don't always agree with you. It happens.
Either way...as long as they don't write some new song for Taylor Swift to suffer through I'm sure it'll be fine.

Maybe the new song will be what was originally intended for "Bring Him Home"--Valjean angsty over the loss of Cosette to Marius.
That was replaced with Valjean praying for Marius' safe return after Caird suggested the melody was very prayer-like.
At any rate, I still say they should have Enjolras do an interpretive tap dance atop the barricades of freedom and have Cammack make a cameo. He'd make a fabulous Bamatabois.
Kidding, kidding.
