Who is up for Leading Actor?
Roger Bart - YF
Lin Manuel Miranda - In The Heights
Stew - Passing Strange
James Snyder - Cry Baby
Cheyenne Jackson - Xanadu
Daniel Evans - Sunday In The Park With George
Paulo Szot- South Pacific
My guess is it will end up:
Lin Manuel Miranda - In The Heights
Stew- Passing Strange
James Snyder - Cry Baby
Daniel Evans - SITPWG
Cheyenne Jackson - Xanadu OR Paulo Szot - South Pacific
My guess is that the award will go to Daniel Evans but I wouldn't be surprised if Lin Manuel Miranda took it.

Well, I think it's too soon to tell. Don't forget Szot is playing a Tony-winning role, Stew is starring in one of the best-reviewed shows of this year, and Snyder is starring in what may be the BIG hit of the season. He may be the star in the making that the Tonys love that americanboy referred to earlier (sorry but Sierra Boggess ain't it). You forgot to put Max (whatever his last name is) from GREASE on your list of prospects, neddy, not that he has a chance in hell but I'm just saying...for the sake of completion.
At this point, taking a wild guess, I say it'll be down to Evans and Miranda with Miranda having a very slight advantage for starring in a hip new show that he wrote himself.

Kelli O'Hara has the same problem as Rebecca Luker. The blonde (usually soprano) leading lady roles in revivals don't win Tonys.
Luker was fantastic in Show Boat, The Sound of Music, and The Music Man, but lost to Glenn Close, wasn't nommed (Natasha Richardson won, even though everyone expected Marin Mazzie to win), and lost to Heather Headley, even though Marin Mazzie (Speaking of blonde leading ladies with no Tony wins) got the best reviews of that year in Kiss Me Kate.
Tyne Daly, Faith Prince, Christine Ebersole, Donna Murphy, Bernadette Peters, Bebe Neuwirth, and Natasha Richardson won Lead Actress in Musical Tonys in the last 20 years for revivals. They all played sassy alto, belty roles, except Donna Murphy, who won for King and I after Julie Andrews boycotted the Tonys because Victor/Victoris didn't get a best musical nomination.
There is a kind of role that wins a Tony and a kind that doesn't. Lilting soprano mermaids don't win. And unless the World War II nurses are shockingly sassy, they don't win either. Unfortunately for Dot and Clio/Kira, muses don't have a great track record with Tony voters. Faith Prince is this year's Debra Monk. She'll be on the list as much for her lifetime contribution as for the current role, but doesn't need to write an acceptance speech. If Lupone doesn't win, it will be because of an In The Heights upset, but look for that show to get this year's consolation prize for one of its featured performers.

I left him off on purpose, I figured that he isn't even in the running.
At this point, taking a wild guess, I say it'll be down to Evans and Miranda with Miranda having a very slight advantage for starring in a hip new show that he wrote himself.
That is why I think he won't win, and they will give him the award in the other category he is nominated in. Like Bob Martin for Drowsy Chaperone.

"Natasha Richardson won, even though everyone expected Marin Mazzie to win"
I love Marin Mazzie as much as the next person, but that statement simply isn't true. Richardson won all of the awards leading up to the Tonys that year, and received by far the best reviews of any of the women nominated. Her win was hardly a surprise.

Kelli O'Hara (Kelli or Sutton's spot could be taken by
Sutton Foster the well deserved Kerry but the
Patti Lupone committee seems to love Sutton)

Though my thoughts will probably change once all of these shows have opened, so far I'm sticking with:
Sierra Boggess, The Little Mermaid
Kerry Butler, Xanadu
Patti LuPone, Gypsy
Kelli O'Hara, South Pacific
Faith Prince, A Catered Affair

She wouldn't.
DirtyRottenGirl, your post made no sense, not sure if it was on purpose. And as it has been said repeatedly on this thread, Foster is up for feature not leading.

"Why would Sierra Boggess get a nomination over Jenna Russell, who won raves and an Olivier for her portrayal of Dot in London?"
Sierra has also recieved rave reviews from critics and viewers alike ever since previews began in Denver; she's not guaranteed a nomination though(Hence why I said my thoughts will probably change once every show has opened). I'm not saying that Jenna won't get a nomination, but these are just my thoughts as of right now...Who knows, it's a tough year for Best Actress, there has been Actresses before who were snubbed when they shouldn't have...I don't see why I'm getting questioned for picking someone who isn't respected by others on these boards; only because some think it's incredibly easy to bring a two-demensional character to life on a stage and therefore Sierra should not receive any credit just for being a "carbon copy" of the movie. When in fact, Sierra delivers new emotion to the character of Ariel that her cartoon counterpart was lacking. From her facial expressions to her acting/singing, I think she's performing above the material she is given and as of now, I'm going to stick with her getting a nomination no matter if others dislike her on here. I just don't think it's fair to single her out only because she's in a disney show.

I have no idea what the hell happened...

I love how everyone can declare who will and definitely won't be nominated. It's nice to speculate, but who knows what will definitely happen. Remember how Raul was a "lock" for Best Actor in Company? Look how that turned out.
I can only imagine how it will be when nominations do come out and the majority is wrong.

Look at his love letter to Chenoweth for The Apple Tree, and she didn't get a nomination.
To be fair to Brantley, though, he was far from the only person writing love letters to Chenoweth for her performance in The Apple Tree. She got across the board raves for her performance (though that may have been because the production itself was so lackluster).
I find that in recent history, the Tonys award performances of new roles in new shows over those recreating roles in revivals.

#94re: Tony Award for Featured Actress In a Musical...
Posted: 12/30/07 at 5:04pmWhile I enjoyed Sierra's performance in THE LITTLE MERMAID...I don't think she'll be getting a nod this year. There are just too many amazing leading women this year and Sierra might be seen as "not ready." But you never know...

I think the only way she will get that nod is if Kelli O'Hara stinks.
There is no other performer that you could kick out of a spot, they are all too deserving of that nomination.

So Sierra isn't deserving? She is deserving just as much as any other leading actress.
She does justice to the role. Her role isn't as meaty as any of the other roles. The roles this year are some of the best female roles ever! Aggie from A Catered Affair, Rose from Gypsy, Dot from Sunday In The Park With George, Nellie from South Pacific, and Kira from Xanadu, Ariel from The Little Mermaid isn't one of those roles.
