Any thoughts of who will win and could be nominated. Why?

Kerry Butler, Xanadu
Patti LuPone, Gypsy
Kelli O'Hara, South Pacific
Faith Prince, A Catered Affair
Jenna Russell, Sunday in the Park with George
That's what it's going to be. I can't imagine Sierra, Mandy (assuming she is still in In the Heights), or Laura getting a nomination. The only other person who might be "on deck" would be Megan.
I wouldn't instantly rule out Sierra. She got great reviews in Denver and has gotten good word of mouth from people who have seen the show on BWW. I think she could get a nod depending on the sucess of XANADU and A CATERED AFFAIR, both which I want to see, but XANADU may not last the winter and A CATERED AFFAIR like GREY GARDENS, has an artsy following, but midwest tourists want to see WICKED. I think some nods will deopend on financial sucess.
Disney leads who are cast for the sole purpose of being easily replaceable don't get nominations unless there is an extra slot open.
I could, however, see Mandy Gonzalez stealing Patti's slot.
Britney Spears in "Ruthless".
"Disney leads who are cast for the sole purpose of being easily replaceable don't get nominations unless there is an extra slot open."
I don't think that is why they cast her. She can actually sing and act (Ariel doesn't dance too much). She could become the next Patti or Donna Murphy or Christine Ebersole or Sutton.
I really thing Megan has a chance for YF. And maybe Sherie from what I hear about her, I don't get to see it until February so I can't judge her.
Of course she can sing and act and dance. It's Broadway. My point is, she is an unknown, playing a cartoon character. That won't stand up against the established performers playing human beings.
Sherie is in three scenes. She is Featured.
Oh true, so do you guys think Megan would be supporting?
Nobody is Supporting. It is "Featured."
Megan is in four scenes, so who knows.
But Megan is billed above the title, which would put her in leading, unless Brooks petitions the committee to have her moved to Featured.
Mind you, I don't think she'll win either way. Featured will be a race between Benanti and Sherie Renee Scott, both of whom share the "their time has come" mantra.
I personally would love to see Sierra win.
Has a Disney role ever won a major award at the Tonys?
^ Ever hear of The Lion King?? 6 Tonys.
LION KING won best musical, not to mention a slew of other Tonys. Tsidi Le Loka was nominated and probably should have one, but Audra McDonald pulled a surprise.
Is this going to be another year where Kelli is nominated but basically overpowered by the other actresses? Or could her performance in South Pacific be great enough trump Patti, Jenna, or Faith? Would be great to see Kelli win a Tony sometime, though it looks like yet again this isn't her year.
The Lion King got design and production Tony's. It received none for it's actor's performances.
Thanks. That's what i meant. Have any disney performers gotten major awards?

I don't think she will win, but Sierra has a veyr good possibility of being nominated. Her performance was fantastic, ans as poitned out by various members on here, her acting when she could not speak was pretty stellar. So I wouldn't rule her out for a nomination, maybe ruling her out for a win, but definitely not for a nomination.
If Ashley Brown wasn't nominated for Mary Poppins, I don't know if Sierra has a good chance. Mary Poppins is more of an "award worthy" role.

Heather Headley won Best Actress in a Musical for Aida.
I don't know, there is just something about the role of Ariel that is magical. How cheezy i know. Maybe I'm just being a lobbyist(sp?) but i can guarantee you that everyone on that voting committee can relate to Ariel. Someone telling you to not go after something you want.
The end :)

No one is safe at this point. Who knows? We could be surprised yet again with one of our lovable leading ladies getting knocked out (Kristin Chenoweth, anyone?).
I'd say LuPonem Russell, and O'Hara are locks. Butler should be a lock, but she (and the rest of the show) might be forgotten if the show closes before Tony time. Prince seems like she has a pretty good chance if the shows is at all successful. But it could be completely panned. Who knows? I'd love to see Boggess be nominated, but I just don't know if she can pull it off. But, then again, who though Bundy would be nominated over Chenoweth last year? Shocker. It may happen again. If Mulally is considered leading (which I would say is very likely, considering there are two other very well-known actresses in the show that will most likely go featured), I'd say her chances at a nomination are unlikely. However, Debra Monk came out with a nomination last year when she was really in a featured role. It'll be interesting. I'd say:
Kelli O'Hara, SOUTH PACIFIC
Patti LuPone, GYPSY
Kerry Butler, XANADU
Jenna Russell, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
Sierra Boggess, THE LITTLE MERMAID
With Patti LuPone winning.
I'd say Prince will get left out, but Kritzer will get a nomination in featured.
