Does every performance receive a standing ovation during the TONY awards?

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Oh cool. So looking at what appears to be Bernadette's standing ovation for her performance of "Rose's Turn", (Well at least in the orchestra), it actually meant something?

Did Patti get a standing O for her Gypsy performance?

She got a standing ovation because she was incredibly ill and still performed amazingly. That's Bernadette for you.

Yeah, and Patti's Gypsy performance got a standing O too last year.

There weren't any standing ovations for any performance at this year's Tony Awards, but Angela Lansbury and Jerry Herman got ones when they received their trophy.

The opening number and the NPH's Eleven O'Clock Number got well-deserved standing ovations.

Aside from the aforementioned standing o's for LuPone and Peters, I remember the cast of The Lion King receiving one when they performed Circle of Life back in 1997.

If I'm correct I believe Brian Stokes Mitchell got a standing O when he sang The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha...

I distinctly remember the LION KING S.O.

Exactly. A standing ovation from Tony Awards audiences is a rare thing. You never see them except for the above mentioned performances.

On occasion, you WILL see the handful of people that do stand up after a certin number, but its only a few people and not the entire audience.

Last year, there was also a standing ovation when they brought the original and current casts of Rent to perform "La vie Boheme" and "Seasons of Love", but that was a special tribute to honor the closing of its twelve-year run on Broadway.

And Dorothy Loudon doing "Broadway Baby" and "Vodka"... oh wait... nevermind. It was all in her head!
