Hey guys! I remember very well how hilarious the Flying Over Sunset thread became as people posted hysterical stories from "going to previews," even though there weren't any. I thought it might be fun to do that for the Tony Award nominations, which in an ideal world would've been released yesterday. For example:
"They snubbed Isaac Cole Powell AND Aaron Tveit for Best Leading Actor? Harry Hadden-Paton's gonna win it for SURE..."
Now it's your turn!
So happy for the nominees for Girl from the North Country and West Side Story. Both are now the clear frontrunners to take the top awards on the musical side. Sucks that Company and Six did not open in time, but we've got ourselves some interesting races. Mare Winningham vs. Shereen Pimentel vs. Adrienne Warren should be one for the books. I also hope Powell and Ayala win for WSS, those would be so well deserved. North Country should easily win Musical, Book, Direction, and Orchestrations, to say the least.
I wasn't very surprised by the lack of love for Moulin Rouge! (besides the design categories) and for Jagged Little Pill, as each got polarizing reviews all around months ago. As for Lightning Thief, the only musical this season with an original score, I'm surprised by the amount of noms they got. But then again, Beetlejuice was nominated for 8 awards last year (in a full season) and that was one of the worst shows I've ever seen.
