I assume that there are no shows on Tony Sunday - is that correct? -

The matinees are probably normal, but there are no night shows.
AVENUE Q is selling tix for both Sunday mat & eve on 6/7. HAIR's last Sunday evening perf is 5/31. They start Wed mats on 6/3
It probably depends on how long a show has been open as well, plus regular schedule. There is no reason to cancel matinee performances. And older shows that do Sunday evening shows probably don't need to worry about the Tony Awards, as they are not eligible to be nominated anyway. Some actors might be out though, if they are attending or presenting.
Billy Elliot has no show on June 7. They added a Monday night show on June 1 to cover.

Like people said, it all depends on the show and such. I saw Spamalot at the matinee the day it won the best new musical Tony.

Huh? Of course he's going to perform on the broadcast. Both he and his show are nominated, and he plays the title character. There is no way Shrek's performance on the broadcast does NOT feature him.
well, I might be a little confused. I know it takes him 1-2 hours to put on his makeup. I thought [were they having a show] he'd keep his makeup on and skip the red carpet. I guess he could do his makeup before and skip the red carpet or spend the first hour and a half of the Tonys getting his makeup done.
and I guess, should he win, there's no reason he can't accept his Tony in his Shrek makeup. how long does it take for him to remove the makeup, anyway?
(there was a thread about him, his makeup and the Tonys a few days ago and I've been wondering what was going to be done ever since.)
Didn't Hugh Jackman have to accept his Tony in costume? I swear there was someone recently who won almost immediately after their number, and received the award in costume.
Chenoweth, I remember, was famously "naked" backstage when they announced her name.

He won't win, so it's not a concern. I imagine it doesn't take him nearly as long to get out of make-up as it does to get in...plus he probably will perform the number earlier in the broadcast...when it's liklier kids will still be awake (not that they'd be watching).

My kids always stay up to watch the first hour of the Tony's -
It takes about 30-45 minutes for him to get out of his make-up because the adhesive has to be dissolved first so it doesn't tear his skin. (This info from the guys at the stage door at the Broadway.)

Re Hugh Jackman accepting in costume - no he didn't. He had plenty of time to change back into his tux before accepting in that.
I think it's important to remember that there will be a full dress rehearsal at Radio City starting around 9:00 am on Sunday morning. This is not only for the cast to get used to the stage but also for the cameramen who have to figure their camera angles, lighting, etc. So anyone who requires a big makeup and costuming job would have to do it all for the morning rehearsal, again for the afternoon matinee, and a third time for the live Tony performance. I would think that this alone would make the Shrek folks decide to cancel the performance. Same for the Billy folks. Theirs is more of a logistical problem. They would have to move all those children and costumes back and forth three times. It much easier on everybody to just do an extra performance on another day and cancel the Sunday matinee. (I have heard that the ballet girls will be performing something at the Tony Awards).
