Ugh.
Well there's a show to skip.
The fact that a marginally talented "star" [and I use the term loosely] gets to sing one of the great title songs in all of musical theatre really lowers the bar for this production.
That means a pet [aka someone cheap who is pals with the queers who run Encores] will get the role of Cora like Debra Monk, Karen Ziemba, or Kate Burton.
God forbid they should spend money to get a star for the part. How about Liza? Meryl? Glenn Close? Shirley MacLaine?
Someone equally dull will be Hapgood: Brian Stokes Mitchell?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but are there ever discounts for Encores! shows? I've never been to one before and since this will be playing (knock on wood if we don't have canceled shows) at the same time as Sondheim on Sondheim, The Addams Family, and Promises Promises, Promises. I re-read the attached article and it says the cheapest orchestra seats are $95. I know it's only a limited run, so I kind of doubt they would do discounts, but could anyone shine a light on this for me? Or is the theater it will be in so small that perhaps rear gallery ($25) seats are worth it? I'm flying home in a few hours and somehow already planning my next trip here, so I would really love some info on this. Thank you in advance.
mormon, there's almost always a discount released for Encores shows. The one out for Girl Crazy (which is the same as the discounts released in the past for Encores shows) brings the rear gallery price down to $20 and the front gallery down to $40.
Is there any news RE: Casting? (Well rumours I guess, since we should know about actual news).
Someone on this forum claimed 'Harriett Harris' was Cora on this forum (though there is nothing else about it on this forum, or articles on the internet that I can find etc..)
Harriet Harris would be such an underwhelming choice when names like Bernadette Peters have been thrown out. I don't think I'd end up watching it if she is cast as Cora, really.
