Interesting compilation.
But I recall in 1994 many people thought BEAUTY AND THE BEAST had a lock on Best Musical, only to have PASSION best it. Or in
1998 everyone said RAGTIME would win Best musical. It didn't - LION KING did. And in 2004 so many critics complained that AVENUE Q deserved to win but that WICKED would win - and we know what happened there.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 6/12/10 at 7:17pmI knew when I saw it (as much as I thought it was the most deserving of the season) that Caroline, or Change wouldn't win Best Musical. But I'm still a bit chagrined that Pinkins' stunning work wasn't honored.
