re: Top Ten Shows of the Decade Henceforth?

It just seems like there are many "Wicked" haters on the board. Though the show is far from perfect, I find it entertaining and (because of its immense "popularity") would have to be put somewhere on a top ten list of shows of the decade so far. I would also have to agree with "Piazza" and "Sweeney," and would probably add "Avenue Q," "Drowsy Chaperone," and "The Color Purple" to the list.

Well, it depends on your take on Top Ten: Best selling? Best reviewed? Most liked? Most hyped? - this would certainly change a lot of things. You also seem to concentrate in recent musicals only, while there have been many important plays written and produced since the decade started.

Blaxx--

Point well-taken concerning plays. Add "Proof," "Doubt," "Rabbit Hole," and "History Boys" to the list. I in no way meant to ignore plays. I also should have included "Spelling Bee" which is such a great show.

I second "Caroline or Change" for the list. It is the best musical I have seen since the original production of "Sweeney Todd".

Okay, actually trying to compose a faithful list--including ones I haven't seen but considering what the consensus on them seem to be.

I'm gonna have to focus on musicals because I don't know nearly enough dramas, but Pillowman and Doubt have to be on any lists including plays.

No particular order:
Sweeney Todd
Light in the Piazza
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Hairspray
Urinetown
The Full Monty
Avenue Q

Too many to decide between for the last 3, especially considering some i haven't seen, but I'd consider: Spelling Bee, The Producers, Wicked, Caroline or Change, 42nd Street revival, Assassins revival and Pajama Game revival
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

re: Top Ten Shows of the Decade Henceforth?

Do you mean shows that have opened since 2000 or since 1996? If the latter, only counting shows that I've seen...

Kiss Me, Kate (revival)
Piazza
DRS
Producers
Ragtime (saw community prod. and am in it now)
WiW (don't throw stones)
Gypsy (revival)
42nd Street (revival)
Drowsy
Fiddler (revival)

That was hard!!!
