Trip to London - What to see?

So I am coming to London this December. It is my first time visiting London and being a big theatre fan, I plan to take in some shows while I am there. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Being a Billy Elliot fan, I hope to see the show in London, and I also hope to see King Lear at the Donmar, but other than that I am open to suggestions.

Thanks!

For Billy Elliot, you can get cheap tickets in the front couple of rows mid-week. They are £19.50 and are an absolute bargain. You miss next to nothing, just a little bit of the footwork. Worth considering.

King Lear is sold out for the entire run, so your best option is to dayseat for it (10 tickets per performance, will get very busy) or to keep an eye out for when they release extra seats (which again will go very quickly).

As for other shows to see, Blood Brothers is a classic musical, and I would put it top of your list if you have never seen it before. We Will Rock You is worth catching if you are a Queen fan.

You may have a look at this website http://officiallondontheatre.co.uk/

I enjoyed Priscilla and War Horse. A lot of choice.

Interesting may be the new production of "When We Are Married" with some good performers in the cast.

Sadly can't agree with that one... I'm a Queen fan and WWRY makes me angry that they didn't manage to create a better musical - esp. book - for such wonderful music.

I think "Love Story" at the Duchess should be a good musical to catch ... I'd also mention Les Mis, but I'm not convinced by the current cast and, partly, direction. If it's your kind of music, "Jersey Boys" is still my favourite jukebox musical. In terms of plays, I agree with the "War Horse" suggestion and would add "Hamlet", maybe.

Willep, can you give us more details, how many shows you are likely to see? Do you prefer musicals, plays or both? Where are you from?

Trip to London - What to see?

I am there from Wednesday the 8th to Tuesday the 14th. I am from the US (Philadelphia), and don't really have a preference of plays over musicals or vice versa, I enjoy both. Some shows I have really enjoyed in New York are Red, Mary Stuart, La Bete, Equus, Billy Elliot, La Cage (wow, now that I type them out I realize they are all transfers from London...haha)

Mark_E, where can I find those cheap Billy tickets? I did know about King Lear being sold out and having to try for the dayseats (fingers crossed).

Thanks for all the help, guys!
