Trying to identify 1983 musical & song

On Sirius a few months ago I heard a beautiful song sung by a man who was searching through a room or a house and found a note in a pocket suggesting someone's adultery. He also kept finding other trivial items including a key. The last words of the song were "a clue." I couldn't write any other lyrics down because I was on a freeway, but he seemed to be singing about losing a relationship. That's about all I remember other than I loved the song. The Sirius host - of course - didn't identify the musical, the song, the singer, or the composer. He did say he was featuring musicals from 1983. I've exhausted my search possibilities and all that keeps coming up is Clue the musical. I even wrote to Sirius, who - of course - never responded. I have found nothing. I feel as if I should know this. If you do, please tell me anything - a clue! :) Thanks so much.

Seems a lot like "The Man Inside the Clues" from Catch Me If You Can, but that's from 2011

If there was a host, I'm guessing it was On The Aisle with Bill Rudman, who does a "themed" show.
