In the Park with George, that is. Both of them are regarding Dot's book.
1. She write all that stuff about what does he see and yadda yadda, but didn't she begin to teach herself to read after they split?
2. Isn't it in French?

Are you suggesting they translate those parts into French, and have the English translations on surtitles?

1. I think it's pretty clear from the show that they may have split but Dot is still VERY interested in George. You don't fall out of love that easily.
2. Let's just assume that George knew enough French to translate it into English as he read. :P

Her reading while they were together was on a very low level. Thus the simpleness of the sentences. She was learning.
And yes, it would have been in French. Shall we refer to the idea of "the willing suspension of disbelief" for this one?
But true...for as close to his grandmother as George was, combined with his planned travel to France, he indeed could have known enough French.

Posted: 12/20/08 at 8:02amPerhaps Dot translated the sentences to English once she arrived in America? But I do think George would know some basic French if he was planning on going there.

Posted: 12/20/08 at 8:30amDidn't Penguin Classics publish THE DOT DIARIES in a very good translation a few years back?
re: Two Questions about Sunday#7
Posted: 12/20/08 at 8:32amFor that matter, regarding number 2, technically the entire first act should be in French. If you're going to be that damn picky.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

Well, right, but since it's all in French, we hear it in English. Act two is ostensibly all in English.
If this was an inconsistency in Wicked you wouldn't all be so defensive!
