I didn't see a thread for this, apologies if there is one, but the Public have released two songs from Love Labour's Lost (you've never have guessed from the title of this thread.)

Love them!
They are both better than anything in BBAJ. And I loved BBAJ.
"Love's a Gun" is great. If these songs are any indication of what the entire score will be like, this will be a pretty awesome show.
These sound A-MAZING! "Love's a Gun" has been on repeat. Who is singing this in the actual show? Sounds perfect for Rebecca Naomi Jones. Very MURDER BALLAD-y.
So they've released a couple more songs from the show and I must say they're definitely not as compelling as the first two. I might go as far as to say that "Jaquenetta" is terrible.
Anyone else been following the releases?

I've listened to all of them, and I sort of feel the same way. In general, I find Michael Friedman's work to be really inconsistent.
"Love's a Gun" is really a great song. But the other songs seem like they lose themselves and are just wandering in different directions. There doesn't seem to be much focus.
When he writes well, it's really good. Otherwise it's usually a rambling mess with lazy lyrics.
Also, just a really personal thing, but I am so sick of latino roles being stereotypical comedic ones. "Jaquenetta" is not only devoid of actual comedy, but it resorts to racial and language gimmicks in an attempt to make the audience laugh. It's cheap.

< Well take that up with William Shakespeare who wrote the character that it's based on.
I've heard them all as well (there have been what, 5 or 6 songs released now) and I agree they led with the strongest songs by far.
The most recent batch hasn't grabbed me, but I can see them growing on me the way BBAJ did.
And also, like BBAJ, I get the sense that they will work much better in the context of the show than as stand alone songs.
