Let me start off by saying I'm a huge U2 fan and have already purchased my tickets for Spider Man in April...cannot wait to see it
But why aren't Bono & The Edge more public about their support of the show? Why don't they record a few of the songs (maybe its part of the marketing plan to do this and release it later...) I think that could go a LONG way to help neutralize some of the negative chatter that's been on the boards...although clearly, people are liking the show...
but I think their public validation of the show (if im not mistaken, i read that they are supposedly at the theater over the course of the next few weeks?) would also go a long way - although with 100% capacity, doesnt seem like the show is hurting in terms of ticket sales but I do think perseption wise - having Bono and/or The Edge speak out makes alot of sense...I'm guessing it just a matter of timing...

They were on tour, so I'm not sure that it would have been possible for them to do much in the way of recording singles for the show.
They apparently have performed Boy Falls From The Sky live because there are videos on Youtube of it.

Posted: 1/9/11 at 10:23amThey have nothing to be proud of as the music stinks anyway you look or listen to it. It is one of the worst scores I have ever heard- tuneless, witless, infantile and charmless with nary a melody in view. I am not a fan of American Idiot but AI's score is My Fair Lady in comparison. The score doe not even manage the basics of musical theatre which is to be integrated into the story to propel it forward. The songs are all reflective dirges for Gen X slackers. It's a shame and only aging hipsters and those who want to appear "cool" will find anything to like in SMTOTD"music" and "lyrics".

Vernon you answered your own questions: it doesn't NEED their 'endoresement' as people are buying tickets like no one's business. It doesnt' really matter WHY they are buying them, but they are.
This could very well have a healthy run (long enough to recoup -- I don't know). Hell, Mamma Mia is less than a wonderful show and that's certainly had a great run. It's the tourist dollar that determines the success of a show, not artistic integrity.
And while I hope you enjoy the show yourself, it was one of the biggest wastes of times and money I've ever been involved in. Were there shows I've disliked MORE? Sure. And while I didn't necessarily want to gouge my own eyes out (as in a few of the shows I've detested) I would NEVER go back and spend another penny there -- no matter how good the revisions are said to be.

The only way this show could get MORE publicity is if an actor should fall out of the sky, land on Bono and do him in. (perferably a spidey cover, there seem to be tons of them)
This way the media can claim "Spiderman kills composer!"
If I was Bono or the Edge, I'd walk away and collect the dough that will roll in.
First we had the Merm on Broadway, then the Pone, and now the Edge, very cool.

Posted: 1/9/11 at 5:31pmLet's put this in perspective - each of the "claws" that U2 is using on their current tour cost 75 million dollars, and there are three of them. they will probably gross 500 million bones on this tour, maybe more. they are rock gods that have inspired generations of music lovers all over the world, and the closest thing to the beatles on the planet. SMTOTD is just a sidebar. an adjunct. an interesting diversion. a fun project.

Posted: 1/10/11 at 10:13amFrom all indications, this score is as exciting as the one they wrote for the 1990 disaster A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. Never heard of it? There's a reason it's never mentioned .....
