Very true. Yes, Cady would have been brilliant.
But, why am I not surprised of what I read in that article...and isn't it sad that I'm STILL glad that Uma is Ulla and not Nicole Kidman. HA!

I feel that Natahan and Matthew were enough to attract a movie theatre going audience. I never said Uma was going to be bad. I just feel that Cady really should have gotten it (and Brad Oscar should have gotten the nazi). Oh well. It's not my choice :-

Thanks saddle shoe! I agree completely. Speaking of a man, who needs to do more movie musicals...

Saddle, I actually have to agree with that. I thought Nathan and Matthew were enough to attract the movie. But I still think they wanted that extra "star power."

Hopefully they'll tleast stick to the stage script.Evidently they were going to add more Ulla stuff (another song and take out another song from somebody else) when Ms. Kidman was going to be in the role. That was frustrating. I like the show just the way it is. Nothing needs to be added or subtracted.

Yes, they should just leave everything the way it is. The focus of the show is not Ulla. Although she is very important for the movie, I didn't think Ulla is a major, major role for the musical.
P.S. Before Nicole even decided to do the role (before she ultimately decided not to do it), wasn't she hesitant to do it at first and almost didn't want to do it?

Always have an open mind. I did see Cady and thought she was wonderful. BUt again, no real "star power" and now they have enough so let's just leave it at that. If it ends up being bad u can point in the producers' faces and say "HA! told u so!" if she ends up being great shrug ur shoulders and say "thank god!"

I am actually looking forward to Nathan and Matthew rather than whoever is going to play Ulla.

It's tough with Cady--she's very talented (I saw her do it on Broadway), but it's true--she's really not very attractive in close-up, judging by the "Producers" recording session video and photos of her out of costume. I'm not trying to be mean, but frankly, film is a different medium, and she would look much different on camera than from the audience in the (very large) St. James Theatre. I'm speaking from an artistic point of view here, and although I feel bad for her, it probably was the best choice to pass on her for the film version.

Actually (don't get mad at me for saying this) I don't think Uma is really attractive.

I have thought for quite a while the most obvious choice for this part is Catherine Zeta Jones. She is the only woman to win an Oscar for a musical performance in about 35 years(the last before her was Streisand for FUNNY GIRL) and she would have been divine as Ulla.

And she'd look a tad bit strange as a blonde, don't you think?

Guys...the casting is OVER...kaput...done...and Uma is already in rehearsal. Production starts in February, so let's just wait and see how things turn out.
yes, this board is for opinion and we all weighed in any number of times on this casting when it was going on. But, the point is moot now. Kidman, Huffman, Thurman (all ending in 'man' I might point out) it's all water under the bridge.
Universal wants box office names, so that's what they have with Ferrell and Thurman...and in the bargain we get to see this show preserved for posterity with MOST of the original leads.
Though I would have loved to have seen Brad and Cady and have Universal trust that Brooks does ensemble pieces with no BIG stars in them...and they still draw an audience...I have to say that I've long since gotten over it. Business is business. Now, we just need to give everyone a chance to prepare...we need to see how Uma does after she rehearses...not on her first day of rehearsal

Plum, I suspect C. Zeta Jones would be very beautiful with any hair color.:)

I actually am looking forward to Will Ferrell's take on the role of Franz Liebkind.

I still think Faith Hill would have been awesome, if she can act. Uma will be good tho.

I'd rather see CZJ as Lola in Damn Yankees.
