Huh?

Nonsense.

Pirate Queen has an open ended run. If it should close before October perhaps the Grinch would take over the Hilton again, but that certainly is not being planned for. What your friend might have heard is that there are plans to mount the Grinch again this year on Broadway somewhere. I've heard it was a great financial success.

I believe GRINCH is going to the theatre at Madison Square Garden.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

curtainpulldowner--THANK You....

I'm still not positive how well the show will do of course (I'm not miss cleo) but it is really really really getting annoying having to hear EVERYONE (including my friends, who know I loved the show while they hated it) talk **** about it.

It's a completely different show after Chicago! It may OR may not be a hit now....no one can say for sure.

and the funny thing is, half the people that talk **** about this show didn't EVEN see it in Chicago! Seriously...
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

Stephanie, how is it a "completely different show" than it was in Chicago? I have not been following the changes in the blogs so could you give a rundown on everything that has changed?
PEACE.

I'm interested to hear as well, Steph.

Foolish topic. No one here has any idea how this or any other show is going to do before it opens, let alone begins previews. We are all certainly left to formulate our own opinions, but to talk about shows are "troubled" when they have yet to begin previews is simply uneducated and is an immediate indicator for your lack of knowledge and experience in the theater.

Good luck Pirates! I can't wait to see the improvements you've made since Chicago.

I think that by saying it is "troubled" people are taking into account the lukewarm to cool reception it received out of town and the fact that it is apperently being overhauled before the New York premiere. Then yes, I would say that this production is "troubled." Not that it can't be saved, but it is not sailing into the Hilton with the same ease that Curtains is moving into the Hirschfeld.
PEACE.

alls i knows is that richard maltby jr was hired to help out wit da scrip.

In all seriousness, I'm very much looking forward to checking this one out. I am told there are some drastic as well as subtle changes. I'm seeing a dress rehearsal on Sunday...I'll let ya'll know my reaction (accepting the fact that it might be stop-and-go and 4 hours long...)

Be careful CapnHook.

This sounds like a classic pirate trick. They lure you to the theater on a day when it's closed with promises of a "dress rehearsal" and then plunder you for all you're worth.

If you think Peter Pan was tough just wait 'til you meet Grace O'Malley and the pirates of Clew Bay.

I don't think it matters how good or bad it is. I can't see audiences flocking to this. If it gets good reviews, maybe it will pick up a little steam, but Spring Awakening and Grey Gardens got killer reviews and I wouldn't consider either show safe from closing this year. The Hilton needs a big revival again. Pirate Queen, with its title alone, doesn't seem the stuff for the average tourist. I truly believe the british blockbuster days are over. Webber couldn't run Woman in White, and that had at least 2 semi-names involved. Sure, Les Miz had a comeback, but people will always flock to that show. Pirate Queen just seems like a foolish venture. So when I say it probably won't last, I'm not saying the show itself sucks (though I have zero desire to see a musical about this type of stuff...zzz).

Are you sure? I was told Sunday at 3?

"Webber couldn't run Woman in White,"

Yeah. Because it sucked. It had nothing to do with the fact that it came from London.

And what about Mary Poppins? That came from London, is not a revival and is doing pretty darn well. Last week it was at 99.8% capacity.

Basically, your theory doesn't make any sense. Shows are going to do well solely depending on how good they are... not where they come from.
