Underrated Musicals that should be better recognized

"What Makes Sammy Run
Barbour
Superman "

It shows how much theatre comes down to personal taste. Fifty years later, I still think 'What Makes Sammy Run' is one of the most boring musical's I have ever seen. It managed to have a good run because Steve Lawrence was very big at the time.

I assume you are referring to Bajour, which played the Shubert for a season.

Moving ahead, I would add:

Darling of the Day

Hallelujah! Baby!

The Happy Time (all three from the same season, interestingly)

Purlie

Coco (yes..saw it three times, once without Hepburn, and loved it all three times)

Over Here

Half a Sixpence

Drat! the Cat! (8 performances and I loved it and still remember a lot)

I also wish Children of Eden was better loved.

and I admit that I am a sucker for Nightingale.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

To Jare

Speaking of taste, I agree with your list 100% with the exception of 3 I did not see - Coco/Drat/Half

Hard to explain how we I agree totally on your list but you disagree re Sammy

To MACK

Saw Baker Street. It was very enjoyable. Prince commented he was not thrilled with the score & even brought in Bock/Harnick to punch it up. Any show that has Christopher Walken & Tommy Tune starting out has to be good. Fritz Weaver as Holmes was perfectly cast. His opening number "It's So Simple " was spot on setting up the character and show at the same time.

Agree with High Spirits

Another one with a fun score is I Had A Ball. Could be great with Lane in the Hackett role and Stokes in the Kiley role.
