Unexpected Songs: The Lesser Known Tunes of ALW - Feb. 21 - Cast Inside!

One of the largest complaints we got from folks in 2004 was not announcing our concerts early enough, so here's to more advance notice this year! We're kicking off the year with a big group concert on Monday night, February 21st at 7pm at Joe's Pub with a project that's near and dear to me, and that's (long name) "Unexpected Songs: The Lesser Known Tunes of Andrew Lloyd Webber."

Performers expected to appear include (alphabetically) Kristy Cates, Rob Evan, Eden Espinosa, Max von Essen, Jessica Grove, Tom Hewitt, Natalie Joy Johnson, Joe Machota, Tina Maddigan, Jeff McCarthy, Emily Skinner, Marty Thomas and more to be named shortly.

Click here if you want to purchase tickets early to what's going to be an incredible night of music featuring a couple of tunes from Woman in White, Whistle Down the Wind, Beautiful Game, some of the lesser known songs from his other shows, and a couple of even less known - but all great tunes. ALW's more prolific than many in the theater world give him credit for, come see why!

I love score to the THE BEAUTIFUL GAME as well. Has anyone seen/heard the Donny Osmond "This is the Moment " tour/CD... he sings "Our Kind of Love", and what a rendition!
And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...

I wish I could be in NYC for this one.

I have seen almost all ALW musicals ( except for Jeeves and Woman in White). How about considering these songs --

*God's Own Country ( heart-rending song from THE BEAUTIFUL GAME, which must be the saddest musical I have ever seen)
*Half a Moment ( lovely one from JEEVES)
*Unsettled Scores ( powerhouse song from WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND)
*Anything But Lonely ( a diva song from ASPECTS OF LOVE)
*Seeing is Believing ( lovely duet from ASPECTS OF LOVE)
*Too Much In Love to Care ( another romantic duet, from SUNSET BOULEVARD)

and many, many more from ALW!

"Half a Moment" is actually the only "serious" song in BY JEEVES. All the others, including the love ballads, are comedy numbers.

Coincidentally, it is also the ony number which the lead character of Berties does not participate in.

Some of the songs, such as "That Was Nearly Us" and "Love's Maze" actually sound like parodies of of other Webber songs!

If its even still up for debate, please consider:
"There is more to Love" (ASPECTS)
"UNCOUPLED" (STARLIGHT)
"Only He" (from the original STARLIGHT)
"Amigos para siempre"
"Falling" (ASPECTS)
"Nothing Like You've Ever Known" (S&D)

wish i could be there. have a great concert!

I Like "THe Heart is Slow to Learn" sung by kiri Te kanawa in one of the Lloyd Webber extravaganzas, the one with Glenn Close in full NOrma drag. I have never heard this song again and don/t know if it somehow made it into one of the later shows . . .
The meat is always leaner on somebody else's dinner plate!

re: Unexpected Songs: The Lesser Known Tunes of Andrew Lloyd Webber - Febru

"The Heart is Slow to Learn" sung by Kiri Te Kanawa was originally meant for the sequel to PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Unfortunately, Andrew Lloyd Webber seems to have put that project on hold or whatever. The song was resurrected, retitled, and lyrics rewritten -- and became OUR KIND OF LOVE for THE BEAUTIFUL GAME. The song is part of the show OCR.

You Must Love Me was a top 5 hit wasn't it?

Some off the top of my head:

Could We Start Again Please (JCS)

I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You (Evita)

Mermaid Song, Chanson D'Enfance (Aspects)

A Kiss is a Terrible Thing to Waste, Tire Tracks (Whistle Down the Wind)

"The Heart Is Slow To Learn" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It ranks right up there with "Heaven Help My Heart" from CHESS. I am a big fan of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. That woman is HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer

"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher

Oooh, "Only He" from Starlight Express would be awesome! re: Unexpected Songs: The Lesser Known Tunes of Andrew Lloyd Webber - Febru And anything from "Aspects of Love" would be nice to hear. I used to listen to that incessantly back in the day.

And am I the only person in the world that has no idea what "Beautiful Game" is? Yikes. :/
