Word from Rachel York's concert in Los Angeles this week is that she is doing a "tour of an exciting musical."

At first I thought it may be something boring like YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, but BroadwaySpace columnist Ryan O'Connor says in the video below (at around 3:50 in) that York is doing a new musical that's targeted for Broadway. He went on to say that it's a project they could have gotten a "name" film or TV star for but instead are using York.

Does anyone know what's being alluded to? Are they putting TURN OF THE CENTURY, the show she did with Jeff Daniels at The Goodman in Chicago, on the road? I feel like that wouldn't be classified as so exciting considering she's already done it.

The only "new" musical booked into touring markets is the Jerry Zaks production of 101 DALMATIONS. If someone as brilliant as York is doing crap like that, it would truly be a crime.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

On a side note:
I was just thinking the other day that Rachel York would be a fabulous Lady of the Lake!

somethingwicked,

I don't care what it is as long as it comes through my city. re: Upcoming Project for Rachel York?

And btw, I actually think the Dalmatians concept sounds kinda cool. But I love puppies, so...

TheatreFreak05, YES! Agreed. I heard her sing Diva's Lament in concert once. Hilarious. And vocally nailed it.

Frank Wildhorn's "WONDERLAND" will either be headed for Broadway or a national tour, previously announced. Maybe they decided to go against Dacal/Wonderland going Latina already and have Rachel York in as Alice! Wildhorn does really like York / her opinions! Although I entirely doubt this and this is just a good dream. Oh well re: Upcoming Project for Rachel York?!

Are there any random Christmas shows not announced yet? Don't some of them tour before hitting Broadway?

Dalmations isn't Broadway bound. It's already book into Madison Square Garden.

Actually I read somewhere (Variety, maybe, can't remember) that the producers were aiming for a summer stint on Broadway if the tour and the WAMU went well.

I thought Ryan O'Connor's question about Next to Normal was inspired! Too bad that's not it.

Can you stop talking about Wildhorn ever? She isn't stupid, she wouldn't do Wildhorn.

Oh big bad TheatreDork... I was simply brainstorming that there's only two-potential tours that could potentially wind up on Broadway - Dalmations and Wonderland.

York, did work with Wildhorn. In fact, she's worked with him TWICE, with Victor/Victoria and The Scarlet Pimpernel. She'd be the reason why "I'll Forget You" is in the show. Good try buddy.

..Not to mention I was not necessarily being serious.

I am curious though philly? What shows that aren't Wildhorn and Tale of 2 Cities do you enjoy? Just curious.

Plenty, BobbyBubby. EVITA, Beauty and the Beast, Woman in White, Sunday in the Park with George, SUNSET BLVD., Sound of Music, Gypsy, Les Miserables, Secret Garden, Jane Eyre, Legally Blonde; most Alan Menken scores. Maybe if people didn't rat on Wildhorn so much you wouldn't just see that side to me re: Upcoming Project for Rachel York?.

But he's so easy to rat on...

If he didn't spread himself so thing and put his hands in so many pots he'd probably be able to clear up his rep a bit.

People don't like success. He undoubtably has had huge success with fans in the past (too bad if they didn't pay off ON Broadway). Look at Lloyd Webber, give all the excuses you want, at the end of the day it came down to someone not liking his success.

Not to mention Wildhorn's works are done with perhaps my three all time favourite voices - Linda Eder, Douglas Sills and Brandi Burkhardt. That'll usually keep you hooked to a particular composer too.

Sorry I won't ever be a fangirl for something like next to normal (which I actually liked, just too much hype on that thing). But I have to admit - I am sort of excited for that show in your avatar - Sister Act!

I can only stomach one Wildhorn show & it's Jeckyll & Hyde.

You spelled it wrong, "Jekyll & HYDE." Frank's got some great stuff out there, it's a shame so many people particularly on this board are turned off to it because people don't like HIM. I don't particularly like "The Civil War," but I easily still listen to a select couple of songs from it. I can legitimately say that Frank's got atleast 3-5 great songs in every show. Not to mention he manages to pull some of the best talent on Broadway to do his works...

So--back on topic! Anyone know for sure what she is doing?

^ You haven't even seen it yet, give it a chance. Besides, she ALWAYS rises above bad material or good material.

I for one am SO going to see this in Dallas.

The new version is supposedly based more off of the book, so it has some strong potential.

Really, the first film wasn't bad...the second one, though...

I saw a mini-presentation of the show...Cruella's song was easily the best, Beth Leavel sang it in the presentation I saw. I can see Rachel doing *wonderful* things with this part. Always expanding her versatility.

Is she definitely doing it at MSG??

And she'll be in Boston over Christmas. What fun. re: Upcoming Project for Rachel York?

Rachel York is a brilliant character actress. She'll be wonderful, even if the show is a dud. I just wish that she would come back to broadway.

So sad I won't be back in time to see it in Dallas. She is brilliant--if the book and music aren't great, I bet you she can save it anyway! Good for her!
