Hi I was the DOP for a New Zealand Musical feature film that takes place on stage... its the dress rehearsal from hell in which you still get to see a whole original musical. Covid-19 pretty much messed up any plans for our release so the Director, Michael decided to make it free to view on youtube. I hope you will enjoy it. All we ask is if you can rate it or leave a review (IMBD) that will help us with our next project.

" When the leading Lady (Sarah Lineham) storms out of the final dress rehearsal of a new major musical, its up to the Stage Manager (Emma Kinane) to fill her role. The show will go on no matter what happens and if the old theater saying The worse the dress, the better the Opening is true, its going to be bigger than Phantom. See drama, romance, comedy and tragedy and that is just in the wings. "

By the way one of the things I should have mentioned is Michael, the Director/writer, is a huge musical nerd.
There are a ton of homages to other musicals in this, like the color sequence under the opening credits is the same as West Side Story... but I bet some here already knew that. Most went over my head... Micheal would insist on cutting a shot on a particular movement at a particular beat because that's they way it was done in The Sound of Music... I would be interested in seeing how many nods to other musicals people here can spot. :)
