Posted: 6/18/05 at 1:44pmThis is my favorite show ever. So witty and clever. Even with the disaster of a Bobby that I saw, during my first visit, the plot and other cast members overcame his deficiencies.

Posted: 6/18/05 at 1:46pmI remember before I came to this board, I would always see ads for it in the paper when it was coming to Los Angeles, and I just thought "urinetown? what is this urinetown?" and it always had the quotes from the critics saying how good it is, so I decided to give it a shot. and it was soooooooooooooo good, I absolutely loved it. I bought a shirt and the CD, lol. I too really wish they would do another tour. maybe someday.

I remember the commercial here in NY and the lady walked out and said, "I'm gonna tell all my friends and they will come."
I wonder if that was the same lady on the "Who are you rooting for?" video on bway.com.

Posted: 6/18/05 at 2:07pmwhat am I missing about this show? I have seen tons of shows and can find *something* to love (if at least the lighting or costumes) in every one. Except this one. I saw it on tour and just thought it was really bad. I'd already loved the clips of Hunter singing Run, Freedom, Run....so that was good...but the rest fell flat. I was sad. I so wanted to love it.

Don't be the Bunny, Don't be the stew.
I had a blast when I saw this, fun music, fun cast........

Posted: 6/18/05 at 2:11pmDid you get all the allusions to other musicals (EVITA, WEST SIDE STORY, CHICAGO, LES MIZ, FIDDLER, GUYS & DOLLS, etc.)? Half the fun was catching all those. And it's a very, very clever sendup of the kind of social-political theatre of the 1930s-40s as well as Brechtian Epic theatre.

Posted: 6/18/05 at 2:14pmYou know that Greg Kotis and Mark Hollemann have their first show since Urinetown playing next week? It's called The Man in the White Suit. There's an article or two on Playbill.com. Lol. I'm going up there on the 26th.

Urinetown is in my Top three all time favourite shows. I was actually thinking about starting a thread about it.
I knew nothing about it when I saw it 3rd row at CanStage last summer and was ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY. I think that show was the hardest I've ever laughed, or close to it. All the actors were fantastic, and the music was so unique with really clever lyrics. I can't stand the fact that so many people blow it off because of it's title. I really wish it would play in Ontario again. I would see it in a second. I really wish it was still open in NYC too, even though I probably wouldn't be able to get there.

I'm sorry, but I have to do this. It's unavoidable.
"I DIDN'T EITHER!!!!"
and
"Oh, dear GOD! Bobby, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
*giggle* Whenever I listen to the OCR and those two lines come up, I drop whatever I'm doing and say them with her.
I. Love. This. Show.

I love this show too, so clever. I also was afraid of what it would be like the first time I saw the title. I saw them perform live at the Tonys (I was there) and then immediately got tickets and saw it a few days later. Now for a shameless plug....if there is anyone in NC who wants to hear some of Urinetown...I will be performing "Run, Freedom, Run" (along with other songs) at a benefit concert tonight (at
for a theatre just north of Charlotte. E-mail me if you want details.

My entire family is obsessed with Urinetown. Its fabulous. I saw it 4 times on Broadway. The second time I saw it with my family- we threw stuffed rabbits onstage after curtain call with little notes tied around their necks. It basically said that we thought they should collect stuffed animals (specifically rabbits) and donate them to the Today show for their little Christmas drive thing- and then PERFORM on the Today show...because they never did. Haha (I have an almost 8 hour video of clips of shows performing from the today show and such). They seemed to like the bunnies- haha- and they know us as the bunny family now.
Anyhoo- they are doing it at the professional dinner theatre in my town, so I'm going to audition and hope for the best!
