Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew whether the licensing rights were out for the musical Vanities? I want to put on a production of it but can't find the rights online anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

It is my understanding that the rights to the show have still not been released due to some complications that exist amongst the authors. A regional production was done in Seattle in 2011 where the team continued to make changes to the material in hopes of creating what would be the final licensable version, but nothing has happened in the years since.

Lauren Kennedy will be presenting a production at her theater in North Carolina next summer, but apparently that incarnation is an exception and still isn't indicative of a licensing agreement having been reached. Who knows when and if that will ever happen, which is a shame for everyone involved given how profitable the show would inevitably be amongst regional and community theaters looking for a small musical with strong female leads.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

It is my understanding that the complications involving the show's rights have been resolved (and in fact had little to do with the writers and more with some sort of peripheral disputes between other parties that were beyond the authors' control). And that the production Lauren Kennedy will be directing just happens to be the first official production under the licensing deal which will be announced shortly. Not certain which version will be the licensed script, since as noted above there were changes made over the years.

Does anyone also happen to know if the revival versions of The Pajama Game (2006) or Damn Yankees (1994) are available to license?

MTI officially licenses both of those shows with their original scripts and scores. Of course it can't hurt to put in a call to them to see if there are any options for the revival versions. The worst they can do is say no.

Have done both PJ Game and Damn Yankees recently. The original versions are the only ones that MTI has.

I know there are a lot of differences between the two versions of Damn Yankees but are there many differences between the original Pajama Game and the Revival?
