It's just Harriet scheming, but that could be great.

Victoria Clark is a bit too hoity-toity to play Mame. The scene with Mother Burnside would be like Margaret DuMont meeting Marie Dressler.

Don't agree, Gothampe. Mame is a very different character than Auntie Mame, not nearly as warm, dizzy or sentimental, although Vicky Clark could do either. And Harriet Harris? A dream. I didn't see Baranski and Harris do this a couple of years ago at the Kennedy Center, but Clark is a much better idea, and boy, could she sing it!

I saw her do Vera in DC with Christine Baranski and she nailed the part. The show came alive every time she was on stage. I think it would be great if they did it and switched off parts. I would love to see what Ms. Harris could do with the part of Mame.

By all accounts Clark was wonderful as Miss Adelaide in the GUYS & DOLLS revival in the 90s, so we know she can pull of the musical comedy part of it, and of course she's grand so she can definitely pull off the diva qualities of Mame. I think she'd be delightful, I think Clark and Donna Murphy would be my top choices for Mame actually, though they'd also be dynamo as Mame/Vera.

Oh my. This sounds SO much better than the upcoming Bucks County Playhouse production of Mame with Andrea McArdle and Lea Delaria.

Harris would be an amizing Vera. Saw her in NJ a couple of years ago as Dottie in Noises Off, and she was terrific. I'd have Boyd Gaines play Beau, with Rachel Dratch as Gooch.

Jane Krakowski as Mame. She has the ability to be both affected and warm at the same time. Which is no easy task. Harriet was indeed a wonderful Vera in DC, but I'd like to see one of our other aging ingenues take a shot at the part to establish a character actor cred in her mid years.

Boyd Gaines, talented though he is, is all wrong for Beau. Mame should want to climb him like a tree.
