In a press release, "Stage Entertainment", Germany's biggest musical theatre company, announced today that "Wicked" will open here at the end of 2007...
They didn't announce WHERE in Germany "Wicked" will open but it's interesting news nevertheless!
If Phantom wern't running at the Coloseum theatre in Essen, I think that would be the perfect theatre for Wicked since the theatre itself would blend right in with the set for Wicked.
Maybe they could move phantom to a different city like Berlin since Stage Inc. are famous for shifting their shows around
I think it would look awesome at the "Neue Flora" in Hamburg...
Kick out "Dirty Dancing" and bring in "Wicked"!

Bugger bugger, can't they antedate it voor end of 2006 ??
I was planning to see "The wiz" in November in Utrecht, Holland first
Now i am getting the story told in wrong order *sigh*
Anyway Hamburg he we come in 2007, "Danke schön ja Herr van der Ende, danke vielmals", stupid Dutch mongul producer LOL
^ Can anyone translate that?
And I bet Uwe Kröger will be in this. He seems to want to do every leading role in Europe.
Because regardless of whether he's suited for a role, he'll play it anyway!
He'll probably play Elphaba
If Kröger will be in "Wicked" I'll have to shoot myself...
Or no, I think this would need something much more painful!
He'll probably play Elphaba
LMAO.
Would they do the show in English or German?
German baby! I hope...

id love to hear it in German
:P
that would be hilarious
Would they do the show in English or German?
Well, obviously, Der König der Löwen, Das Phantom der Oper, and Die Schöne und das Biest were all done in English.

Wasn't there an English cast of Rent in Germany?
Why not an English cast of Wicked?
German's not my forte, but I'm not sure how easily translatable it would be since the two languages seem vastly different when it comes to timing.
But I suppose if they pulled it off in Japan, they'll pull it off in Germany.
I saw a video clip from Japan...I thought it was funny how they sang in english....
Well, the Elphaba was American. That may not have been the case if she had been Japanese.
Doesn't "gemein" mean "wicked" in German? How about that?
And what's wrong with Kroger? He's a dish.
(What? I think he's beautiful... Who are you to judge me?!?)
Das ist good
Good for WICKED.

Wicked, like all Stage Entertainment productions in Germany, will be in German. Yes, there was an English production of RENT, but it was by a small, local English-specialised company. Honestly, I don't get why people rag on Joop van den Ende so much. The man puts an insane amount of money into the art form that we all love and his productions are, usually, high quality and professional. Yes, he picks only the most commercial shows to come over, but this is a business so it makes sense - he's not being subsidised like Vereinigte Bühnen Wien are, so he has to make careful choices (and leave smaller shows to smaller theatre companies that are more suited for them).
Kröger in Wicked...I guess he could be the Wizard, but he's booked for at least a year to do Rebecca in Vienna (which just opened), so I doubt it. At least Pia Douwes (probably) won't be Elphaba. Don't get me wrong, I love Pia and think she's incredible on all accounts, but she's too old for the role.
And I think everyone's forgetting something important: Considering the liberties usually taken by German translators, a nice quantity of Wicked's suck factor may be removed as a result. Or at least I can hope...
/wonders what Caroline, or Change would sound like in German
//probably not very good
///would buy the CD anyways...damn love of his second language
There are 8 WICKED threads on the main board, and 4 are at the top.
Wow.

Wicked has taken over the board and the lives of all those participating in it...
Stop this madness before it's too late!
In Japan, I've heard that they do half of the lyrics in Japanese and half in English. I suspect that they will do something similar in Germany.

They will translate the whole show. There won't be a half-english half-german version. Something like that wouldn't work here in Germany.
The German title is "Wicked - Die Hexen von Oz". "Wicked - The witches of Oz"
I had a nightmare that i was in a german production of Wicked... i was the standby for Kristin
German is so scary.
And I'm German.
