But this IS a message board...the nature of which is to comment upon that which is set before us. You Tube Videos and whatever are put up there because the "putter" wants us to see what they think is their best work. It is an invitation for feedback, and depending on what is up there, it isn't always going to be good. I'm not sure that being honest is mean and petty. It is certainly more helpful in the long run that just saying what the person wants to hear.
There have been instances on this very board where a threadful of people build up the confidence of a performer with a nice enough voice, but nothing really special, to the point where a day job was quit, unwisely, I think.
I'm sure there are many sites out there where it's all about patting each other on the back. This isn't THAT place. Never was. Never will be.
I refer mainly to the way we charge like vultures on any spelling mistakes and proceed to chastise such "offenders." I understand giving honest, constructive feedback to someone, but to seek out vulnerabilities, typos, and misspells seems unncessary and a waste of time. I would think that we could find better ways to utitlize our time on here as there are much more interesting things to point out / discuss.
I didn't notice it in this thread, but I know the phenomenon to which you refer. It can get overdone, but I view it as self-policing of the the board where the level of writing annually hits the slippery slope toward AIM-dom.
In the end, if people want their words to matter, take the time to spell check or craft a coherent sentence. That is the luxury of a message board format. And really, who can resist pointing out a blunder when the writer is being either seriously pompous, obnoxious, or claims to be a professional journalist?
And now back to Elphaba...
Well, as Dr. Melfi once said to Carmella Soprano after a particularly grueling and honest session, "Now you can never ask, 'Why didn't anyone ever tell me?'" Or something like that.
>> Ang, does this have anything to do with Scientology?
No, it not connected to any religion whatsoever. It is just "law of attraction". Sort of like the 'New Age Movement'. In this case, you should see the film "The Secret".
>> It kind of sounds like it? Does your thing have a name or is
>> it just a book?
It's several books . . . by Jerry and Esther Hicks. I'll privately send you their website. Michael J. Losier and Rhonda Byrne and many others up and coming also wrote books. We're more connected to Hay House Radio, metaphysics and such things.
Thank you for all your concern, too and those who are wonderfully standing up for me and others who are "attacked" needlessly.
Look, at least, I am putting out there what I have . . . if you hate, love it or think I'm delusional, that is your problem. As we say in law of attraction. What you think of me of none of my business. It's what I think and feel about me that matters.
If I am delusional, it is my parade, my bubble and let me live in it! Thanks for calling me young, though. I am not competing with 20-something-year-old ingenues'. I am a character actress/singer, older than 30-years-old. I am not fresh out of middle or high school . . . I have been in NY, working, for years and years and even spent six years in L.A. working in show business.
I don't believe in competition . . . because we are all original. There's a role, or several, for me on Broadway and even Off Off Broadway and have already been many roles for me through the years. Julia Murney said it to me herself, "There's room for everyone!" And I believe that and live it.
Perhaps I'll play "Elphaba" . . . perhaps I'll be the first one who is a little more lean and not like everyone else who played the role. Maybe I'll be a hit as the first original "Elphaba" and maybe I won't be her at all. It is MY TOUCHSTONE . . . my dream. If pursuing that touchstone gets me on Broadway as 'Madame Morrible', 'Nessarose' or a role in a musical not yet written -- so be it! I can still dream of "Elphaba" and use it as my touchstone. As Barbra Streisand sang, "Don't rain on my parade!"
Don't save me, either . . . I won't die or commit suicide if I never play "Elphaba". Nevertheless, no matter how many more talented, less talented, prettier, funnier, fatter or thinner actor/singers are out there -- I KNOW, without a doubt, I will be on Broadway, more than once in sevearl acting/singing roles!
In the meantime, I am happy dreaming it, going for it, putting myself out there . . . in all my glory . . . for you all to love, hate, criticize, encourage or whatever!
Yes, I also wish you all could find better things to do with your time than criticize me cruelly or "save me" or tell me I have "no hope" [that is your opinion]. You haven't met me, you don't know my tenacity, my perserverance or my love of acting, singing or my body of work or my improvement in my voice lessons.
I've seen Broadway stars who are lousy . . . that anyone of us could take over for and be 100 times better.
I am NOT a triple threat. I know I will never be in 'A Chorus Line' or '42nd Street'! I know I am not the best singer that ever came to New York [nor the worst] . . . and sometimes the greatest singers never make it to Broadway. Probably because they, like some of the posters, have negative attitudes about "too much competition", or a need to put down others to make themself feel bigger [so negative] . . . etc., etc.
The one's, in the end, who "make it" are the one's who never, every stop loving it, doing it and putting themselves out there.
Arnold Schwartenegger, who has an accent, little acting talent, etc. (except, yes a great body) was told he'd "never make it movies". He did. Bette Midler was told she was "too ugly" for show business. It didn't stop her. Robin Williams is hairy and he isn't pretty . . .and was told over and over he wouldn't amount to anything. Jim Carrey was a poor kid from Canada and carried around a check, written to himself for one million dollars for acting services [law of attraction, folks] . . .until he was making one million per film. The competition was stiff for a tall, skinny, poor kid who is funny -- to actually "make it" to that level -- but he BELIEVED he would, no matter how many people gave him the statistics of his chances . . . which were slim to none!
Thus, I live by that rule of law of attraction . . . never stop believing in your dreams! And enjoy the journey! I am and I "know" as Jim Carrey knew, that I will, indeed, be on Broadway in singing/acting roles.
I don't think I'm doing it without help either [thus, I am anything but egostitical]. That is why I take voice lessons, keep myself acting on stage in productions; encourage other actor/singer friends to puruse their dreams. I meditate on my dreams (seeing myself on the Broadway stage), work on my spiritual health with positive books and tapes (I highly recommend the Abraham-Hicks work and Summer McStravick), appreciate all the gifts of my life . . . I truly believe I am a "Broadway star" [in my heart, not in a snobby way] who has yet to be on Broadway [and know I will soon enough] -- when Source (God), and my letting go of doubt, deems it is time. Everything has it's season. And even if I have to wait until I am playing the 'Grandmother' in "Pippin" in the revival in 2033, then SO BE IT!
In the meantime, I am happy, NOT delusional . . . and know I am truly talented.
I know I can play "Elphaba" if it so deemed and would do it different than Julia, Ana, Idina, etc . . . and certainly believe they were brilliant, too. We each have our unique way of doing roles. It doesn't make it wrong or bad or whatever. It makes it different! I have seen four different "Elphaba's" so far and loved each and everyone and their uniqueness in the role.
If I were the first chubby, 'mix' "Elphaba" would the world end? Maybe I'd cause "Wicked" to close, if some of you were the judges -- but hey, until you actually see me, in person, on stage (after rehearsing a role for a while) -- don't be so quick to offer your two cents about my ability to make it to Broadway in any role!
If you're Stephen Schwartz, ok . . . yes, I may be more likely to heed some of your words. Maybe. I'm darned determined and unless God, herself, comes down and tells me different -- You will not rain on my parade.
Besides, if I am delusional . .. are you my therapist?! I think not. Let me live in a my beautiful world. I love each and every audition I go to and every role I am cast in!!! It has been a long, long journey (20 or more of the shows I've been in were well AFTER high school, my friends -- and after college).
To my fans . . . and the wonderful reviews. I just love and adore you!
To the person who asked about me winning Broadway lottery . . . I wasn't saying it had anything to do with my career on Broadway. I was making a point about what law of attraction, positive thinking and living it has brought to me.
Julia Murney: There's room for everyone! [August 4th, 2007 at Gershwin Theatre stage door to Angela Theresa]
George Michael: You've got ot have faith . . . faith, faith, faith.
As for the reference to the woman with cancer that Oprah straightened out. Yeah, that is why I "take voice lessons and continue to improve my craft by performing in show after show". So, I am not JUST using law of attraction to bring me to Broadway. I am taking the steps . . . as suggested to the cancer patient. "See a doctor and use positive thinking along with treatment".
Exactly what I am doing. I have the desire, the belief and the SANITY to know to get in shape vocally, physically, spiritually and mentally for eight shows a week!
Am I ready today? No, this is why I work on all of this each and every day . . . and improving by leaps and bounds.
From "Ask And It Is Given": This book is about your realignment with Source Energy. Well-being flows; Well-Being wants you! Everything you ever desired, whether spoken or unspoken, has been transmitted to you vibrationally . . .and now you are going to 'feel' your way into allowing yourself to receive it, one feeling at a time.
I live it!

You do realize that the "reviews" that you quoted and posted on your website were completely satirical, right? You may want to get your sarcasm meter checked.
The fact that you post message board replies on a website intended to market yourself as a performer at all really indicates the status of your "career."

It is kind of like "If you build it they will come", right? Or "Don't Dream It-BE IT"?

Well, again, I am enjoying my journey . . . sarcastic or not. The state of my career is brilliant. I've just been cast in an Equity production! Update later, once the show is up and running! Thanks for the support, though.
Congratulations. What is the show? Will you get your card?

I don't want to put any negative spins on it, thus, I feel it is not time to say too much. As for the Equity card . . . I am double checking with Equity about this contract.
I've done a couple of Equity Showcase(s) before and they didn't give me an Equity card. This is a different contract . . . so I'm not exactly sure if it is the same deal as a showcase.
More later . . . the public forum has zapped my energy and I'd like to stay upbeat! [Not you, my friends . . .the naysayers, of course]. I don't want to give them more information to make it into a negative thing again. You understand?
P.S. Love "Rocky Horror" you know. Indeed! I am not just dreaming it, I am being it! Woo Hoo!
Wow! This thread has certainly turned a bit ugly. In Ang's defense, I have met her in person. She is very real and passionate about her art. She is excellent at expressing herself and would make a wonderful teacher someday. Anyway, just felt like I had to step in because she was very helpful to me when I was in NY in November. Just sayin' mom
Mom, I don't think anyone would disagree with you on any of your points.
Thanks for the support Suleen. It just seemed like things were getting defensive and I wanted to show my support for Ang. I love to see when people are really passionate about their art and Ang certainly is. mom

Her passion isn't really in question here.

Her passion is a flame that shan't burn out!
AngActing, any time you feel your positive energy waning, just reach out to the universe and take a withdrawal from the cosmic bank account of love that your fan have set up for you!
Ang,
I just finished reading this thread.
Couple of bits of advice?...
Maybe you may want to re-write your resume' and include all of these shows you've mentioned, because the one's you do have listed are all very strange.
Also, do not include any background work UNLESS your character is included in the plot of the show.
Just because they put you next to the actor, doesn’t mean it’s featured.
For example: I was on an episode of American Dreams, and there was a running joke in the episode about ‘the handsome new hairdresser at the local salon’. Well, all of the women were wondering why this handsome man was single, and I played the hairdresser. No lines, but THAT is what’s considered “Featured”… If the actor speaks to you, etc.
And you may want to ditch the clip of you singing.
