Posted: 3/18/04 at 4:08pmThat's a heck of a set to be moving around. I hope it doesn't lose too much of its impressiveness when its sized down.

Posted: 3/18/04 at 5:11pmI'm scared to see what the tour version will look like- there is no way they can afford to produce the same $15 million dollar show on tour.... some of the costumes alone in the Broadway show cost thousands of dollar each.... and those massive sets....

i know this isnt 100% on topic but lilhead mentioned the cost of the costumes, so heres my question:
Ive been fortunate enough to see wicked twice now, once with kristen, once with laura bell, and i noticed that laura doesnt have two of the costumes kristen normally wears (the one for thank goodness-which is the most adorable thing EVER!, and the school girl outfit--laura bell just stays in the white outfit the whole time)...is this because of the cost of the costumes?
thanks!
always,

Posted: 3/18/04 at 5:25pmUnderstudies have their own set of costumes for when they play the lead and yes, often times costs can be a factor. Some of Kristin's costumes, especially the one she wears in the opening, costs a lot of money.

Posted: 3/18/04 at 5:26pmAll of the understudies/standbys in Wicked have their own costumes. I always assumed it was to make sure the costume fit them perfectly, but I don't know why it would be a different style.

Posted: 3/18/04 at 5:31pmI had "heard" through sources at Universal that Kristin's opening costume costs nearly $10K to make...

Posted: 3/18/04 at 5:38pmI wish they would wait a couple of years to launch the tour, lol...this would be an AMAZING show to travel with as the lighting supervisor or technical director! I would LOVE to travel with this show!

Posted: 3/18/04 at 5:57pmI think its WAY too early to send out a tour of such a popular show.... why come to new york to see it when you can just sit at home and wait for it to come to you?

Ah... but we can make money both in NY and on the road...
Selling out houses from San Fransisco to Deleware...
That will not impact the Broadway houses much... it'll still be a destination.

Casting anyone?
Let Laura Bell go on the road with Coleen Sexton. They both definitely look the roles, and while Laura Bell has already proven herself at Glinda, we know that Sexton would make ONE HELL of an Elphaba.
They need another star as the Wizard, though. Hmm..........

Posted: 3/18/04 at 9:11pmThey should just take Sean McCourt on the road.

Posted: 3/18/04 at 10:31pmColeen Sexton.. would be in a word, amazing. Love her so much! Please let her be Elphaba!

Posted: 3/18/04 at 10:36pmI think Coleen would actually be superb in the role. I wouldn't mind seeing Kelli Fournier (Aida) take on Elphaba as well. For Glinda- Erin Dilly, Melissa Dye, Kelli O'Hara, Christianne Tisdale, or Laura Bell Bundy.

Posted: 3/18/04 at 10:53pmColleen Sexton as Elphaba would be in a word: "Wonderful". I think the scaling down of sets is what makes or breaks a show. If WICKED is as good as you all say it is (I can't say because I haven't seen it), but if it is, then it should be able to work without the big sets. I think the natl. tour of TITANIC was a lot better with the scaled down sets, but I did think that the levels that were used on Broadway were distracting....

Posted: 3/19/04 at 12:15pmI saw the pre-Broadway version in San Francisco. Robert Morse was the wizard. He was OK, but overshadowed by Idina and Kristin. I'd love to see it with Joel Grey.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 2:35pmThe show has come a long way since San Fran- its definitely a much better and much stronger show. Replacing Morse was an excellent move on the producer's part because while the part is small, Joel Grey does do a much better job-- plus he remembers his lines and doesn't look lost on stage.
