WICKED or AMERICAN IDIOT?

My Mom wagered me back in June that if I lost 20 lbs by her birthday, August 24th...I would see another Broadway show. I'm down 30 lbs and have met my goal....
I'm now torn between seeing American Idiot and Wicked. What only leans me toward American Idiot is all of the "panic and rumors" that the show is closing.

First of all congrats!
They are such different shows it's hard to compare. I love AI so I would say to see that.

Good for you! Maybe I'll do that same bet with my parents. As for the show, I'd say American Idiot. Once again, congrats!
EDIT: How far ago was the wager made, if you don't mind my asking...

Wow good job!!! you should be very proud of yourself!
Wicked is and will always be my favorite, so that would be my natural suggestion. If you like the traditoinal big-numbered musicals, i would definitely suggest Wicked. but if your tastes are closer to rock musicals like spring awakening/rent/next to normal, i would probs go see American Idiot. to each his/her own!

Posted: 8/9/10 at 1:12pmThat's amazing! I agree with everyone that you should see AI, maybe ask for Wicked as a Christmas present, because Wicked will be there for awhile, the space where AI is yo never know how long it will be on Bway, so why not see it now when you still have the chance?

Congrats! You'll need to post a new pix!
Wicked will entertain you, AI will make you think. Neither are perfect shows -- I actually put them on par with each other. Wicked seems a bit more "celebratory", however. I would give the edge to AI.

Depends on your taste, Ive seen wicked already and I'm going again soon. If you like the sort of music, it's amazing and is so fun to go and watch. Defying Gravity still gives me goose bumps :)
But if you like Green day AI is probably more for you.

First, congratulations on the weight loss!
Second, I think it depends what you like...if you're a fan of Green Day I would definitely recommend American Idiot. Wicked is going to be around for a long time, the only reason I would recommend it over something else right now is because the current cast is truly stellar and I'm not sure how long they're all going to be there together.

Congrats!!! That's a lot of weight :) You should be super proud!
Have you seen WICKED before? If not, then I would absolutely say that's what you should. AMERICAN IDIOT is a good show, it'll make you think, the music & singers are amazing, and it has very cool technical merits as well. If you're looking for a traditional big "Broadway" show, go for WICKED. But if you're looking for a rock musical type of thing, go for AMERICAN IDIOT

Posted: 8/9/10 at 3:22pmIf you have not seen Wicked yet I would go see that now because although it will stay around for a while, the cast right now is amazing and who know when a similar cast will come around. I saw it in May and I just bought tickets to go see it again in October. Wicked is my favorite show I have ever seen and would totaly recomend trying to get the best seats possible. I had second row and I felt I was in the show. Wicked is the type of show that you want to be that close so that you do feel that it takes yopu to a whole new world. (the main reason for going to see shows in my opinion). AI won't be there long because I think the whole Green Day Broadway style is going to die out. Where the story Wicked tells won't. I have a great solution though to your problem-----just ask your mother for the money and go to the city on a Wed. or Sat. where there are two show's 2P.M. and 8P.M. and do the lotteries and the price will actualy come out to cheaper that paying for 1 full price ticket for 1 show

If you haven't seen it yet, definitely go see Wicked. The music and plot of the show is incredible. I don't know about the Broadway cast, but in the West End they are amazing and I can't wait to see it again next month, but I don't like Green Day, so I'm biased.

Posted: 8/9/10 at 4:08pmI would actually chose Wicked. I like most of the big rock musicals, but I just can't get into American Idiot. I don't really like the music. The characters and the story just don't feel right. While Wicked isn't my favorite show ever, I would see it over American Idiot.

Congrats :)
I would definitely pick American Idiot. I know I'm in the minority here, but I personally find Wicked to be boring
Besides, Wicked will be around a longgg time.

Congrats. I should do that with myself and the 15 pounds I could stand to lose.
I'd go with American Idiot, but it largely depends on wehther you want tradition or concert. I'm not a huge fan of Wicked...loved the music on CD but was left cold by the actual show...and AI is just 90 minutes of unbridled energy.

First of all, congratulations!
Tough choice, but I would go with "Wicked." Mandy Gonzalez is amazing, and it's much longer than "American Idiot." :) Enjoy, and let us know what show you pick!

I'd rather gain 30 lbs than see American Idiot again.
Go see Wicked. :)
#21WICKED or AMERICAN IDIOT?
Posted: 8/9/10 at 9:29pmI haven't seen American Idiot, but if you are equally torn, go with American Idiot. Wicked will probably be around for longer on Broadway as well as the tour.

Congratulations and well done on the 30 lbs., as the other posters have said!
My two cents: see "American Idiot." I don't think that it's closing imminently, but I doubt it will make it to this time next year, whereas "Wicked" isn't going anywhere (as the other posters have said).
In addition, I'm not a huge fan of Green Day, but I found the orchestrations to be thrilling, the performances fresh and raw, and the action of the show to be FAR more interesting than the combination sitcom/melodrama that is "Wicked." There's a lot more to think about in AI, and the characters are more multi-faceted in a love-to-hate-them/hate-to-love-them way.
If you do see AI, and if you lotto and lose, I recommend going to the back(ish) of the lotto-losers line so that you can get side orchestra seats rather than the boxes. The right box is okay, but the left box is EXTREMELY obstructed--I missed a full third of the action there when I first saw the show.
Keep us updated on your choice, and congratulations again on working so hard to get healthy!

Posted: 8/9/10 at 11:56pmI'd see American Idiot because Wicked will be around for years to come. As much as I loved the show, I don't see American Idiot lasting that much longer, and therefore it'd be a missed opportunity.
