Um, eventually. One day. Judging by the success of the show and the upcoming productions worldwide -- it won't be happening for quite some time, so don't hold your breath. Got that?

They won't film it Sondheim-style. . it'll be a huge budget movie with tons of big name stars.

He's not referring to the archival film/tape of the show -- he's referring to an actual 'film version', ala motion picture/film/celluloid/movie/et al.

Posted: 6/1/07 at 8:05amI'm not sure why the majority of you guys seem to think the film will not be filmed until the show closes. Look at all the movie musicals that have come out in the past several years, while the Broadway show has been running at the same time in New York - "The Producers", "Hairspray", "Chicago", "Rent", etc. And I think (although I could be wrong) that each time, the box office success (or failure, depending on how you look at it) of each film has helped boost the ticket sales of the physical Broadway show. So, my guess is that if producers are intelligent, they won't wait until the show closes to do a film version. It's always about money, and I don't know any Broadway producer that doesn't want more money coming into their show, and a film version of "Wicked" would no doubt boost their already booming ticket sales.

Posted: 6/1/07 at 6:41pmI'm pretty sure they professionaly filmed the entire show with the first national touring cast for press reels. the footage is really beautiful, but I doubt it will ever be released commercially.
