WIcked FIlmed?

i've heard wicked is possibly going to be filmed(the stage version)? is this true?

Um, eventually. One day. Judging by the success of the show and the upcoming productions worldwide -- it won't be happening for quite some time, so don't hold your breath. Got that? re: WIcked FIlmed?

i definitely wasnt holding my breath. i just heard it would soon, so i was just asking. im in no rush to see it.

They won't film it Sondheim-style. . it'll be a huge budget movie with tons of big name stars.

It'll probably be filmed in 10 years when its tour FINALLY ends or when the Broadway run FINALLY ends. Not soon though (Thank God).

WICKED was already filmed by Lincoln Center with Jennifer Laura Thompson & Idina Menzel in 2004.

He's not referring to the archival film/tape of the show -- he's referring to an actual 'film version', ala motion picture/film/celluloid/movie/et al.

Ah. Well I doubt that'll ever happen. The movie should be out in the next 3-4 years and I'm pretty sure that's all you're gonna get.

It sounds like he was talking about filming the stage show...

But then, why make an effort to film something like that?

How could you think he wasn't asking about the stage show when in his question he clearly states "(the stage version)"???

There will not be a film made of WICKED until much later in its run on Broadway or when it closes on Broadway.

ok, i wonder how a filmed-stage version would compare to a high-budget movie. well know one knows and we may never know!

I'm not sure why the majority of you guys seem to think the film will not be filmed until the show closes. Look at all the movie musicals that have come out in the past several years, while the Broadway show has been running at the same time in New York - "The Producers", "Hairspray", "Chicago", "Rent", etc. And I think (although I could be wrong) that each time, the box office success (or failure, depending on how you look at it) of each film has helped boost the ticket sales of the physical Broadway show. So, my guess is that if producers are intelligent, they won't wait until the show closes to do a film version. It's always about money, and I don't know any Broadway producer that doesn't want more money coming into their show, and a film version of "Wicked" would no doubt boost their already booming ticket sales.

it was also filmed with shoshana bean and megan hilty, in addition to idina menzel and jennifer laura thompson (back in september of 04). just putting that out there :)

I don't think they'll wait until the show closes for a film adaptation.

They filmed it for archival purposes. (And press reel, etc) Not for commercial release. So, no, you can't buy it.

I'm pretty sure they professionaly filmed the entire show with the first national touring cast for press reels. the footage is really beautiful, but I doubt it will ever be released commercially.

Good heavens,I hope not.I know it has many fans,but it will never be committed to film.It does not have the stature of a Sondheim.As the film industry now only seem able to think in terms of known,'Franchises'.Fortunately, this load of poo just ain't big enough
