Why ... did you start two separate posts with the same text but with a different adjective in the headline?

re: WONDERFUL Patti Lupone!

I saw the PBS Patti video in its entirely. It's the first time I've heard her discuss "Sunset Boulevard" and the controversy surrounding it. Naturally, she is bitterly disappointed at the way things went. I wasn't aware that Kevin Anderson was fired first, before the end of the London run. She was joyful when the interviewer mentioned the Andrew Lloyd Webber Pool at her Connecticut home. Above is the picture of the (in)famous Andrew Lloyd Webber pool. Included is a link to an extensive 1995 (?) interview. It's part of a fan's website to Patti LuPone. from Roman in Austin, Texas.. the official Patti LuPone FANatic
At Home With Patti LuPone

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

That one also didn't work. re: WONDERFUL Patti Lupone!

But I watched the INNERviews video last night, and it WAS wonderful. She has such great stories, and she tells them so well. I hope she takes some time off to write some memoirs soon.

The page worked for me after trying it a couple times.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I can't decide if Kevin or Alan are better. Both have faults. Kevin doesn't have a "deep" enough speaking voice for the role. Alan has a great voice for the role but doesn't emphasize words well/makes things worse than they are.

I prefer the London Betty to Judy Kuhn, who is just doing more of her same old same old, and of course prefer George Hearn to the London Max.

Of course Patti is just wonderful as Norma. I feel that if the show were done now she would have been perfect. Though on the rare ocassion Glen has a peak, her peaks are higher than patti's, Patti is much stronger overall.

I can't believe how much better the London production is (IMO). Nicer music, less repetative, far better orchestrations, etc. Updated On: 7/19/06 at 08:41 PM

Check out Google Video. There is a 4 minute plus video clip of Miss Patti singing "As If We Never Said Goodbye" in her Anthony Powell costume. I had seen that clip in a British theatre website. The webmaster was kind enough to show me the clip. The website does not exist anymore, but that clip is one of my prized pieces of memorabilia from Sunset.

Does anybody know what the story was with Kevin Anderson? if he was sacked, it was well before the controversy about Patti not doing LA. He left the show in January 1994, leaving the late Gerard Casey to play the last three months opposite LuPone.
