WONDERFUL TOWN/WONDERFUL SHOW

I saw WONDERFUL TOWN last night and had a great time! The show itself is holding up well after all these years and the production is very imaginative. It was great to see the large orchestra onstage and seeing the sets gliding in and out around them. I do say, though, that the first act runs a bit too long.

The performances are all excellent; especially Donna Murphy and Greg Edelmann. Who knew that Donna had such a comic side? He timing in "A Hundred Ways To Lose A Man" is flawless and her antics during the conga scene that ends Act One are hilarious.
Everyone in the supporting cast stands out in his or her own way.

The staging is clever and I really enjoyed the homage to RIVERDANCE that is inserted into "Darlin' Eileen" which Eileen performs with a chorus of police officers. However, it is the conga scene that eveyone will remember and it has the audience tapping their feet and swaying along with the actors on stage.

I also have to add that the amplification on this production is good. I was able to hear every word and lyric without distortion; a pleasure for my opera-sensitive ears!

WONDERFUL TOWN is a very enjoyable show--the best I've seen in a while. Go and have a good time.

There's only two or three people I have ever encountered on these message boards who have made me think that they are completely horrible people all of the time. Granted, it's what they have chosen to reveal of themselves, but most people I butt heads with have something redeeming about them. But you Horsey, seem completely devoid of anything interesting. I would move as far away from you as physically possible if trapped at a cocktail party with you. You're like the person in Airplane! that people would rather kill themselves than listen to yammer on and on.

We really enjoyed WONDERFUL TOWN at "Encores" several years ago when it was done. Have December tickets and are eager to see it again. Glad you found it delightful as well.

You are not going to get some nice replys if you post things like that! I love new shows (probably more than old), but Broadway is Broadway and you are not a very good fan if you don't even give it a chance. Sounds like everyone likes it a lot better than your show, TABOO!

Ray was very good as The Wreck. However, I was seated in the second row and from that vantage point, it was obvious that the fellow was just a bit too long-in-the-tooth to play this character. I got to meet him afterwards and he gave me and my "date" a tour of the stage. He's a quite genial fellow.

BTW, you guys are driving me crazy with all these great reviews. I have to wait three weeks to see it, and thats a LIFETIME!! Anything could happen between now and then!

In view of the poor showing of other recent musical openings, will this be the surprise hit of the season ?

I'm seeing WT on Tuesday and after reading all the favorable reviews, I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I did the show in high school and loved performing in it. It was so much fun and such an homage to the city :)

You know the next theatrical generation is in trouble when Wonderful Town is crap and when you tell someone that Dorothy Loudon died and they say, "Who?"

Someone who really cares about theater would study the history of it. We can expect someone your age to know who Dorothy Loudon is. And if you don't, take the time to look it up.
