Posted: 9/30/04 at 9:57amI would love to know what Linda has to do to get the credit she deserves! SHE is the one that should have her name in lights.... politics are not ONLY in DC.

Posted: 9/30/04 at 10:02amShe needs to go to Hollywood and make a name for herself, then come back and use that name to headline on Broadway. It's expensive to mount a show. You need a name that sells.

I'll be there tonight, hopefully it'll be better than reported above. I know Brooke had only two weeks to rehearse, so I don't know what to expect.
I was also wondering about their ticket sales, so I just checked, about 1:15 pm C107-108 were available with or without discounts. I bought mine last week and I'm off to the side, mid orch.

Posted: 9/30/04 at 1:54pmIris, this is true... however, she didn't go to Hollywood to become a star... she did it right here...

Posted: 9/30/04 at 1:54pmHank - Did you pay full price or did you use a discount code? I've noticed in the past that sometimes better seats are released for sale closer to the date of the actual performance.

I got discounts on Broadwaybox.com.
Sometimes, just before going to a show I check to see what's available just for fun. Often, good things come to those who wait, especially for a show that's not exactly a hot ticket. It hapened to me once before with Look Of Love, early on all that was available was to the rear and sides, but I waited until the day before and got front and center in a full house, also with discounts.

Posted: 9/30/04 at 3:48pmIn response to Brooke's singing: Let's just remember that the role was originally written for Rosalind Russel (a non-singer) and that Donna and Linda "beefed" up the music since they are singers and why not make use of their incredible ranges. My guess is that Brooke will be singing what was originally written. I am a huge fan of the original recording and I think that having a non-singer in the role in a way adds to the difference between Ruth and Eileen and helps Ruth to appear even harder. The original music was very speech like in rhythm and tone. With no disrespect to Donna, Linda or Jennifer Westfeldt (I think they are all amazing) I personally can not wait to see both Brooke Shields and Jennifer Hope Wills. Here's to hoping that they breathe some fresh air into the show. Updated On: 9/30/04 at 03:48 PM

The case of Linda Muggelston (sp?) is interesting. There is definitely a feeling in this business that if you prove yourself as a terrific stand-by, that may be the career box you find yourself in for a very long time. Wonderful stand-bys are hard to find. And perhaps this is exactly what Linda wants. I can't say it's a bad life. You make a poop-load of cash, you get to play some of the greatest roles ever written for women and you don't have to go through the stress of opening a show as the one to carry it. Plus, you get a good deal of free time to be with family and do other things. There are worse careers to have.
As for Brooke, I think she's this generation's Lauren Bacall: a tall, handsome woman who, though not the greatest actress, singer or dancer, can, through sheer force of personality and likability, deliver.

Well, at least she looks great in costume.
I think she'll do fine.

Ok, I have worked with Linda for several years and have never seen a more versatile actor. Yes, she is one of the best stand-by's ever and she has a brain like a steel trap. Once the information is in there it is THERE FOREVER.
She has a very versatile voice and can act any kind of role so this also adds to her stand-by position. Yep, you do get a LOAD of cash and that is always nice. I just feel that someone who has the talent she has should be recognized for it as well.
Those who live in NYC and are active in the theatre world actually enjoy seeing someone cover the lead at times. Others get downright cranky about it when they have traveled from out West or something and have to see 'just an understudy.' When you are a cover you have a more difficult time grabbing your audience than the 'name' they came to see. Thus, I think their job is MORE difficult!
Anyway, enough rambling... I know she has paid her dues and would love to have a lead role. I know she could carry it - but her name is really only known in the theatre family and, of course, where she is from!
Wherever her career takes her I wish her luck and countless blessings!
