I'm more worried about our friend Amasis (who's a regular poster on BWW). She lives in Indonesia and I haven't been able to 'find' her online since the earthquake. And I won't be able to relax before I see her Beatles avatar pop up again
Hope she and her family are ok.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 7:27pmHe probably still felt the earthquake, either way. If it was one big enough to *distrupt the Earth's rotation*... and he was only a couple hundred miles away from it..

Posted: 12/26/04 at 7:33pmNo, thespiangeek, what I said was that the town he's in is a couple of hundred miles from the nearest body of water, not from the epicenter of the quake. THAT was a couple of thousand miles away. It's doubtful he felt anything.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 7:46pmI should hope not. But no worries, Anthony owns mortality. bwaha

Hey guys, let's chill on the speculation on what Anthony did or didn't feel until he checks in okay?
What happened this morning in East Asia was a tragedy of almost unprecedented proportions. Prayers to all of those affected.

I'm going to see Bombay Dreams tomorrow night, it will definitely be a different mood in the theatre.
In the spirit of the season, let's keep everyone in our thoughts.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 10:02pmI think we should be focusing on the fact that over 10,000 peole have died. Each of those who died meant much much more to probably at least 5 people than Anthony means to you (unless you are his family or friends.) If you think how much more everyone who has family in this area is going through than you are just worrying about Anthony, you can begin to see how truly awful this is. Don't let the American isolationist attitude get to you. I am not saying you shouldn't be worried about him, but I don't hear about how everything is ok since Anthony's probably safe. Everything is NOT ok and won't be for a long long time.

I agree the with the last couple of posts. Thousands of people died and all you're worried about is an over rated performer with questionable talent. For shame!!!!! In the broad scope of things Anthony Rapp is nothing. Get over it.

Beautifully said, Son_of_a_gun. Although I understand that some people are worried about Anthony we should try to keep this in perspective and think of all the people who tragically lost their lives today and how their families must feel.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 10:24pmI for one am concerned with everyone over there... Amasis and Anthony included (as well as seeral other people I worked with and the thousands I never even met). I do not think the replies from these people are indications that they only care about Anthony. I think they speak out of concern for all. Let's focus on praying for everyone over there, like I previously mentioned, because prayer can change anything.

Posted: 12/26/04 at 10:35pmThe earthquake was felt all over, and the tidal wave killed people all the way in Africa. If I can feel a 5.6 earthquake in Central California all the way in The OC, then he difinatley at least felt it. Poribibly though it wasnt that horrible of a temor for Rapp. The Tsunami didnt strike for 2 1/2 hours, with people in Thailand acting normally, sunbathing and swimmign when the 30 ft. tsunami hit, traveling as fast as a jumbo jet. Thsi is all from the articles on Yahoo and news reports on ABC and Fox. Chaing-Mai is in nrothern Central thailand, so hopefully it didnt strike him. Still this disaster is truely horrifying. For someone who lives in another earthquake-prone area, it freaks you out. Its hirrifying to think this could happen in California! The thought scares me to death. I am praying for the people of East Asia, hoping there arent too many aftershocks (equally deadly- there not even close to being out of the woods yet). Anthony Rapp is only one person affected by this, it's crazy. 11,000 is a huge number! I'm Praying for every single one of those people and there families and the people of those countries affected.

SLM, I am genuinely surprised in you
Just because you don't care for a person as a performer is no basis for saying his life doesn't matter
Of course it is a terrible tragedy that affected thousands of people, but why on earth shouldn't we worry about the few individuals we know are there
It's not American Isolationism; it's human nature
My prayers have been going out to all those who have been affected but I will not be chastised for being particularly worried about Mr.Rapp and my friend Amasis because I have actual contact with them on a personal level

Hi all.
I am a friend of Anthony's and my family and I were worried for him -- Like a Yutz I forget where he and Rodney were staying in Asia.
I dropped him an email and he apparently was able to reply. As always, it is not surprising he was thinking of the scope:
=========================
Hi Bill --
Thanks for checking in. We're fine, since we're currently in Bangkok, hundreds of miles away from the disaster area. It's a terrible, amazing thing...
Give your family my love. Hope you guys are enjoying your holidays.
Love --
Anthony

On a perosnal note, I think there is nothing selfish ever about being worried about someone: whether one person, or a thousand. Tragedy becomes terribly more personal, and we respond to it on a more human level, when we can place faces on it with people with whom we have some form of connection. Terrible tragedy, whetehr war, natural disaster, plague, or the unimaginable cruelty of neglect engages us to feel helpless and unable to repsond. Sometimes gigantic numbers overwhelm us.
Rather than respond with anger -- or suggest someone's grief or distress is petty, or selfish -- Could I urge that we all do somethign positive, such as make a donation to a disaster relief agency taht will be helping (whetehr in Africa, India, Indonesia, or elsewhere?)
I am relieved Anthony is safe. I very much hope your friend who is a poster her eis safe as well.
Let us all give hope that there will be no further quakes of such magnitude that will cause such horror.

Thank you for sharing, FatherAyerun. I'm glad Anthony is ok and absolutely over the moon that our friend Amasis is safe too.
I already had PMs about possible donations, so we are definitely looking into options on how to help some of the victims of ths terrible tragedy.

Posted: 12/27/04 at 12:23amI hope I didn't sound like I was saying people had no right to be worried. I was just trying to put it in perspective. It's hard to imagine the wide swath this tragedy has caused. I just wanted to make sure there was no unnecessay close-mindedness about this tragedy on the board. Every single person matters so every person safe and alive is something to be thankful for.

FatherAzerun, thank you for posting and updating on us on Anthony. Glad to know he's safe.
And yes, the donation thing is an excellent idea. I'll be helping any way I can (though at this moment I don't know what that will be).

Posted: 12/27/04 at 2:06amSouth Fl Marc, it was most inappropriate of you to take advantage of this tragedy to offer your uncalled-for criticism of Anthony Rapp. The people who post on the thread which he was gracious enough to start are people who respect and admire his talent and care about him as much as it is possible for a fan to care about a performer. You have every right to your opinion, but it was thoughtless and insensitive of you to choose this venue to express it.

Anthony, I'm very glad you're safe. For everyone who has sent their prayers and good thoughts, whether on this thread, the OT board, or via PM, thank you very much.
I just want to say that I understand completely the point Gunn was trying to make. My first concern was obviously the well-being of my family and friends. We're still waiting for news from relatives who are in Sumatra (the epicenter of the earthquake was just off its coast), but I admit that when I realized that my closest friends and family are safe I had this relieved feeling for a moment that things are then "fine." It was a few moments for it to get through to me that everything was NOT ok. Sure, I have to cherish the fact that my family is safe and to be thankful for any good news we receive, but thousands of people are dead (14000 was the last estimate), millions of people are displaced, and parts of the region are destroyed, and so I will have to balance my gratitude with a realistic look at the devastating effects of the disaster and what we will need to do to about them. And we will need help. You made a good point as you always do, Gunn. Thank you.
And South Fl Marc -- I cannot understand why you chose to write your message the way you did. I don't think it's strange for people to worry first about the people they know, whether it is a friend, family member, or even a performer they admire. Gunn's point was that they should not stop there. I am not sure I understand what your point was.
