MOOSE MURDERS was the longest-running MOOSE MURDERS on Broadway. I fail to see the f0cking point.

The crappiest revival, with the worst acting, and horrid casting becomes the "longest WSS on bway".
Have you seen every WSS revival? Did you see the horrid 1980 production? or the misguided Lincoln Center summer revival? How about the appalling tour headed by Jack Wagner that never even dared play Broadway? Even if you are just considering revivals of 2008/09 season, did you conveniently forget GUYS AND DOLLS?
As stage productions of WSS go, this one had some miscalculations but it's hardly a disaster. The acting was considerably better than the caricatured performances preserved in the 1961 film version. Given the limitations of the script, the revival cast did quite an admirable job of creating believable characterizations.
The text of WSS is not as brilliant as the showmanship. I have a feeling some people blame production faults when it really should be placed on the writing.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 12/20/10 at 1:53pmI'm tired of people posting comments on Broadway shows they have not seen (some even judge a show by listening to the i-tunes "preview" of the cast recording)... or worse .. comments written by those who haven't even set foot in a Broadway Theater ...

Sheesh. Give the op a break. So what if he used hyperbole to get his point across.
THIS production was weak. I'd seen HS productions that were closer to the mark. This had NO emotional hold on me whatsoever, didn't tear up or care an iota about any character.

Posted: 12/21/10 at 10:46amWhile I did not care for a couple of the changes, I enjoyed the revival for what it was. But frontrow is right. WSS is known for its music and choreography. Between the numbers, the show inherently has very little spark. I'm happy for this revival being so successful, especially when it gets increasingly more difficult to bring audiences in to see classic shows in quality revivals.

I didn't know that it was getting "increasingly more difficult to bring audiences in to see classic shows in quality revivals."
But who needs revivals when shows like Phantom, Mamma Mia, Lion King, Wicked, and Chicago hang around for decades?
Maybe classic shows don't need frequent revivals on Broadway - it sounds like the DC Oklahoma did pretty well. And I'm sure that many, many other productions of classic shows around the world are done (and attended) well.

memories are short. this board had no problem not giving the op a break when he spoke of other revivals.
