Waitress ticket advice for the Mom

Hi y'all!

My mother is visiting NYC in the first week of August and one of the shows she's planning on seeing is Waitress on Tuesday night. (8/2)

Here lies the problem: She also has a guaranteed ticket to see Stephen Colbert on that afternoon and won't be out of that show until close to 7pm.

So I ask you wonderful people what your best advice would be? She's deciding between buying a cheaper balcony ticket early online for about 90 total w/fees, trying her luck at TKTS the morning before Colbert or further trying her luck with SRO just before the show if it's sold out.

Any advice? Thanks in advance!

Time wise, your mom should be able to walk and make the 7:30 curtain from Colbert.

Ticket wise, I would buy the ticket early if I knew I wanted to see the show.

The partial view that was suggested is a good idea if she has the time to go to the theater earlier in the day.

I think you should be able to rely on that. To be fair I don't think it will sell out since Tuesday's nights haven't been selling out recently, but even if it does it won't be until right before curtain, so you'll definitely be able to buy a ticket even if it's at TKTS

Actually, If getting partial view seats I would recommend you get the ones on the right side of the stage ( when looking at the stage). There is quite a bit you miss if you seat on the partial view seats on the left side because you do not see the pie shop at all. I know, we sat on those the first time and I didn't enjoy the show half as much as when I sat on the right side of the house.

Don't have Waitress advice, but Colbert advice... Just so you know, the taping that I was at, one of the guests ran late and we were let out close to 7:30pm. I know that was abnormal. It actually made that taping extra special, since Colbert and his band The Stay Humans entertained us off camera to fill up the time. But I'm glad I had nothing to run to after.

If she wants to try to get a day-of Waitress ticket, she should definitely buy it before the taping, whether in the morning before she gets in line to get her numbered Colbert ticket, or between getting her numbered Colbert ticket and the return time to enter the Ed Sullivan theater. Personally I had about a 1hr 30m or 1hr 45m gap after picking up my numbered ticket. But we did line up at 12:30pm so we got them right around 2:00pm.

Edited: To clarify, we had advanced reservations to see Colbert. You still need to get in line to get a numbered ticket + hand stamped.

Actually now that I think about it that is kinda true. I watched the movie so I understood what happened, so I guess I just completely forgot that I didn't see that. I mean frankly if the left side partial views are the only thing left you should still get them. You'll mom will miss one thing that happens in the kitchen, but I think she'll be able to catch on by I didn't plan it and bad idea (reprise). Has your mom seen he movie?

This is a very small theater so really no seats are "too far back". The mezz seats are excellent here....I would definitely prefer the mezz to the back orchestra (where you have a greater chance of sitting behind a large head without the grading.

I would not want ticket too far to the edges on either side of the orchestra or mezz. You miss what happens in the kitchen if you are too far house left and you miss some of the great musicians that perform most often house right. (I would stay away from the boxes in this house..they are really far back.
