Looks like it's only open to those in the UK right now.
I just don't....but they....and how about the part when?....did they?....this isn't....and then they have to....umm....OOOOOOOKKKKKKKKK.
I can see amateur productions of THE LION KING, WICKED, THE LITTLE MERMAID, and other difficult-to-stage shows being done successfully.
But amateur productions of BILLY ELLIOT??? The point of the show is that there is this one talented mega superstar dancer kid...each production of the show kinda has to have one!
Eh you just re-stage it so Billy is really good doing the Alley Cat.
His Angry Dance is a very enthusiastic Hokey Pokey.
It's a big chorus show for children, it IS a kid based show, so in that case I can see it being a big draw for community theater. It's not a terribly singing based score either. I think it would be easier to find a Billy than say a community Elphaba...
However...yea, the choreography will probabaly be abysmal, but hey as is the way with community theater, it's there for people to do shows when they wouldn't normally; and every performer's got to start somewhere. Why not with "Billy..." at a young age?

To be honest, the kid in the movie version of Billy Elliot wasn't an AMAZING dancer. I think as long as you've got a kid who is pretty good at ballet and who has a lot of personality, it could be done.

I have a feeling there are going to be some female Billys at the amateur level. That said, while there probably aren't many boys who could do the professional productions, there are probably countless boys who could handle an amateur production.
SNAFU....I think I love you!
