What a wonderful idea. Ellen Greene was like listening to nails on a chalk board[why not a different ethnicity] and I need a dentist that isn't a paint by numbers comedian like Steve Martin[in this].

Ellen Greene originated the role Off Broadway. Her Audrey is legendary. Nails on a chalk board?!?!

I think Little shop is good for opening itself up to Star names because the singing range doesn't have to be as spectacular as most shows aside from the Urchins. I can literally think of any number of actresses who could play Audrey. Kristen Bell would be great, Christopher Walken could actually for for Mushnik too.

Does it really matter that Ms Greene originated the role off Broadway Mr Nerd in response to my thoughts on her voice?
Legendary to your ears[and millions of others] but to my ears[and eyes] a character that grated whenever she appeared and sang.

If they are doing a live TV version I would be interested in a Anna kendrick - Ben platt Audrey / seymour pairing .
I would also love to see the Audrey plant voiced by an African-American broadway performer with a big, brassy voice I.e patina miller

Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford or this won't be worth remaking. Megan Hilty would also be a welcomed option. Either Ashford or Hilty though. That's what we really need.

Will you not be happy until every movie and stage show features Annaleigh Ashford?

I can see it now: "Flower Drum Song" starring Annaleigh Ashford! Is it so bad to like her enough to dreamcast her for roles she is right for? I'm hardly the first person to suggest she play Audrey. I also suggested another actress along with her.

This musical is very close to my heart, so the idea of a remake honestly excites me. It won't be as wonderful as the Oz film, but I'm always happy to hear new things happening with this material.

Listen, if Disney can mine their entire film catalogue for remakes and the audiences keep inexplicably coming, why not WB give this a shot? Greg Berlanti does have a knack for great casting on his shows, so I have faith he'll do the same for this.

Buzz elsewhere on the internet (mostly AV Club) suggests this is not a remake of the musical, but of the public-domain horror comedy Roger Corman made. Not sure which is correct.

The Deadline article flat-out says, "This one will be a musical, a fresh version of the 30-year-old Frank Oz-directed film."

Is the OP saying that they'd like a woman to voice Audrey II, though? That's a change I'd be in favor of seeing someone try.

LOL @ "Mr. Nerd".
You are aware that on an internet message board even though you are well within your rights to state your opinion there is always the chance [more often than not] that you are going to be challenged, right?
Just sayin'...

Well, to the extent that is the case, I would go for an ending that works better than either of the two we have for the theatrical release: the last-minute switcheroo. Allow me to elucidate.
I think they should go the middle road: start with the cop-out ending, but then make more of the Audrey II seedling hiding in their patch. Focus just a second too long for comfort; just when you think it's over, a subtle blues beat crawls onto the soundtrack. And a voice-over: "SUBSEQUENT TO THE EVENTS YOU HAVE JUST WITNESSED..."
I think it just might give the dark ending more impact. Call me crazy.

I prefer a well made film over a live broadcast hype thing any day.
The problem is, I fear that casting directors, producers, filmmakers and CGI artists are not talented or innovative enough these days.
All movie musicals turn out the same. Uninspiring, badly sung, lame cgi and just plain cheap.
I have yet to see a musicalfilm from the last 10 years with proper camera work en smart cinematography and right usage of the music and voices.

Then you need to get your eyes and ears checked, SweetLips. Dumbest post I've ever seen on BWW!
