Was Bob Fosse a Womanizer?
Posted: 7/20/15 at 5:26pm
Probably. In the grand scheme of things, what difference does it make?
As a wise man once said " Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
Posted: 7/20/15 at 5:26pm
Of course he was a womanizer. Didn't you know he wrote the song Womanizer: https://youtu.be/T5CfU5FUiug

If you're really interested in such puerility, read a couple of the plethora of books that have been written about him.

Of course Bob Fosse was a womanizer! There wasn't a chorus girl in New York who would've said no to him. He was basically Jesus of Broadway and all chorus girls were Mary Magdalene.

"You are ****ting me?"
You sound surprised. I'm not given the poster of this thread...

To Matt
I was pulling your leg

Alrighty then. Pretty standard stuff from the boards.

My question is perfectly legit. You guys just make me out to be a crazy person. And roxy, what curse word did u use?
Posted: 7/20/15 at 5:48pm
Nonsense. There are several stories of dancers who essentially had to fight him off to avoid rape. Physically fought. Great choreographer, but not so much a nice guy.
As others have said, there are many books about him. Read a few.

WHAT! He raped chorus girls?? OMG noooooooo
He is my favorite choreographer, it this is true, it changes my views of him

Quite impressionable aren't we?
Watch All That Jazz. He was a tortured driven genius. This does not make it acceptable but explains his inner self. I dare say he was not the only one in theater history to have a checkered past.

I peed next to Bob Fosse once.
It was at the urinal in the men's room at the old Broadway Arts rehearsal studios. He entered, walked up to the urinal next to mine, unzipped, and stood there, cigarette dangling from his lips, deep in thought.
As he peed, the ash grew longer.
I was transfixed, mesmerized. I didn't move a muscle, for fear my very air current might break the spell.
He finished his business before I did, zipped up, washed his hands and left.
I don't know what happened to the ash.

...and Jerome Robbins whacked you on the ass with a rolled up newspaper. You are a true Broadway legend PalJoey!

there is nothing puerile about this, any more than there is about Cosby. If one wants to understand the theatre and its history, one must understand what made its characters tick.

I would say Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins & Michael Bennett all had their demons in one way or another they were all brilliant in their way but their private lives were generally a mess.
Posted: 7/20/15 at 6:30pm
They were all maniacally driven talented individuals in a cut throat business.
The fact that their personal lives were screwed up is unfortunately a side effect of this.
Posted: 7/20/15 at 6:37pm
He was a predator - like Cosby and Presidents Clinton and Kennedy. Great talents.
Posted: 7/20/15 at 6:46pm
Hogan, to your point, that's why I suggested that the OP educate himself by reading up on Fosse if he's really interested. If he's just looking for dish then yes, I would consider that puerile. Nothing as exciting as your own sex life and nothing as boring as someone else's.

Wilmingtom, ok. I guess I was giving the post the benefit of the doubt and you weren't. I understand what you are suggesting, and you may be right, but in general, I don't think it is inappropriate to ask a legit question and when someone does,"read a book" isn't really responsive. I recognize we haven't established that this one is legit, and the way it is worded could easily lead someone to believe otherwise.

Reading comprehension, kiddo. He was very aggressive sexually and no doubt coerced some women into sex, thinking (often accurately) it would get them hired, but he was never formally accused of rape. There are many accounts of older and wiser dancers who say they did have to fight him off when he would not take no as an answer.
"Watch All That Jazz. He was a tortured driven genius. This does not make it acceptable but explains his inner self. I dare say he was not the only one in theater history to have a checkered past."
You do realize that All That Jazz was Fosse's whitewashed version of himself, right?
I'm with Wilmingtom on this one. If that aspect of Fosse is all you want to hear about, read a book.

ummm nooo i am curious about everything about him, but sex seems like it played a huge part of his life and work. 95% of the things we talk about on this board are about predictions, and grosses, and casting. Its a shame that someone can't start a discussion about a legend without getting chastised for it. But go ahead, keep talking about how much money producers are/aren't making.
