If you had the chance to recommend someone to see one musical, which one would it have to be?
-West Side Story.

He's never seen West Side Story?
I bet he only sees his own shows because he's so cheap he doesn't have to buy tickets.

Noooo, he is not cheap, he is known for being very generous to the people he employs and several charities. He says if he had to pick one show to recommend someone that has the chance to see ONLY 1 show, he would recommend WSS.

I don't get how he would classify Wicked as anything other than fun and fluff.
(and I like Wicked)

...and yet, he's producing the biggest mound of fluff ever created: The Wizard of Oz.
Not to say Wicked's not great, because it is, but he does make a point in that within the last ten years we haven't had a very good taste of original musicals on Broadway, but it is kind of hypocritical to imply lack of originality when on the West End most of his musicals have been revivals.
Granted, Webber did come out with Woman in White, which should've succeeded and was a really great original musical...but, these things happen unfortunately. Sometimes in a sea of revivals and just plain crap, it's hard to find which ones are really worth it and stand out...

Posted: 4/3/10 at 1:24pmI think most of the revivals he produced were his own musicals though(Evita, Joseph)
